Bonded to the Wrong Alpha Chapter 10

She regretted it, but it was too late.

I never visited her again. heard she’d developed a wasting sickness of the mind-remembering nothing.

I arranged for her to be placed in a care home and sent money every year.

But I never went to see her. The best thing we could do for each other was stay apart.

Later, the caretakers told me she’d forgotten most things.

She forgot her name, forgot where her den was, forgot how to eat and dress.

Only one thing she remembered, and she’d repeat it every day to anyone who passed by.

She’d grab strangers, her eyes hollow yet unwavering.

“Do you know where my Elara is?”

She never saw me again. On her deathbed, she remembered everything.

Tears slipped down as she closed her eyes in regret.

If only she’d cared more about her daughter back then, instead of…

Years later, at a hunting banquet, Kyle overheard a guest slap the table.

“Why is my business booming? Because I cherish my mate! People who respect their partners succeed! My mate helped me haul stones when I had nothing!”

The table erupted in laughter. Kyle sat in the corner, his glass frozen at his lips.

He took a burning gulp that stung his eyes.

Five years on, Elara had expanded her father’s territory and pivoted its focus to trade. Packs lined up to do business with her.

At a coalition ball, she stood on stage toasting the crowd of hundreds below.

Kyle sat in a corner.

His health was failing. The pack healer said it was years of cheap drink.

He looked up at the radiant figure on stage and remembered the question she’d once asked him:

“Will we be happy in the future?”

He hadn’t answered. Instead, under the table, where Elara couldn’t see, he’d been clasping hands with

Serena

After the speech ended, he saw Silas waiting at the side entrance. Silas took her handbag naturally, and the

two walked out together.

“Silas, these gifts are excessive. Can’t you be more subtle?”

“I can never be subtle with you.”

He’d stayed by her side all these years. Steadfast, respectful. Never leaving.

Kyle lowered his head, swallowed the bitterness in his throat, and quickened his pace to disappear into the crowd.

How could he not have loved Elara?

But that love was real. And so was Serena’s pull.

What happened after that, no one knows.

People only talk about Elara-how remarkable her life became.

She had stood on her own, walked away, and never looked back.

Beyond the withered plains, she’d become a landscape.
