She looked tired, but her eyes still carried that familiar glint of feigned innocence and victimhood.

At the sight of me, she smiled. “You know everything now, don’t you?”

I curled my lip. “Know what? That my mate and my sister are mating? Or that you’ve bonded behind my

back?”

My eyes dropped to her belly. “About three months along, I’d say.”

She froze, her mouth opening and closing soundlessly.

“How did you know?” she finally stammered.

“Walls have ears,” I said, leaning against the doorframe. “Don’t you think I had a right to know? Since you were planning to take credit for my pack contributions and replace me entirely.”

She was utterly stunned, her pupils dilated as if doused with ice water.

She hadn’t expected me to know so much.

Then Kyle arrived, having clearly heard my last words.

He stood behind Serena, jaw tight, ready to explain.

I didn’t give him the chance. I opened the door, stepped inside, and slammed it shut, locking them out.

Kyle realized I wouldn’t open up and eventually left.

Serena started pounding on the door, her tone shifting from pleading to sharp.

“Elara! Open up! You know what I hate most about you? That holier-than-thou attitude. Why do you always get everything?”

Her voice came muffled through the wood, thick with tears and fury.

“You probably don’t even know that Kyle and I bonded the very night you introduced us.”

“I got sick the next day, and you ran around taking care of me. Elara, don’t you feel pathetic?”

I didn’t answer.

After ten minutes or so, it went quiet outside. Footsteps faded away.

Later that evening, someone knocked. I peered through the peephole. It was Kyle.

He stood there, hands in his pockets, head bowed, as if gathering his thoughts.
