Bonded to the Wrong Alpha Chapter 03

‘Fine,’ Kyle said after a long silence. ‘Have it your way.’

Serena’s tone softened. “Tomorrow, I’ll take her to the old archives.”

“The ruins? Is that safe? Don’t make a scene,” Kyle warned.

Mother spoke again. “You two be careful.”

I leaned against the wooden wall, my nails digging into my palms.

The mother who’d fought my father tooth and nail for custody, who’d raised me alone—she was helping them plot against me now.

I drew an unsteady breath, slid back into bed, and closed my eyes.

The next morning, I woke late.

They were already in the main den. Kyle and Serena sat side by side on the furs. Mother was packing lunch.

They looked fresh. Vibrant.

Serena spotted me and flashed a sweet smile. “Elara! Come with me to the old archives? I need a rare herbalism text.”

“Sure,” I smiled back.

Kyle offered to drive us. He pulled the truck up to the door and stayed inside.

The old archives had a rickety ladder leading to the loft upstairs. Serena climbed up, claiming she’d spotted the book.

Suddenly she yelped “Ah!” and tipped backward, arms flailing, grasping for me.

I’d expected it. I gripped the railing and braced myself against the wall. She hit the floor hard.

Kyle burst through the door, eyes sweeping the room. They landed on the figure on the ground first.

Then he looked up at me, fury warping his face.

“Why didn’t you catch her? You just watched her fall?”

I stood on the ladder, looking down at him. My voice came out cold. “Kyle, whose mate are you? You didn’t even ask if I was hurt.”

“If outsiders see this, they’ll think you’re hers.”

He froze, guilt flashing across his face.

Serena let out a weak whimper. “It hurts, Kyle. My leg…”

Kyle dropped to his knees immediately, lifting her gently, and carried her to the infirmary without a backward glance.

In the infirmary, Kyle bustled around, forgetting to keep up the act in front of me.

I stood in the doorway, arms crossed, watching him.

He finally noticed my stare. He walked over, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.

“She’s your sister. You feel bad when she’s hurt. If you got hurt, I’d do the same.”

I almost laughed. His performance was polished—just a bit over the top today.

I turned and walked out, dialing a number I hadn’t used in years.

My father’s voice came through, surprised. “Elara? You’re calling your old man?”

“I’m ready to take that Alpha training you offered,” I said. “Is the position still open?”

“Of course! Anytime!”

“Set it up,” I said. “Now.”
