Betrayed During the Mating Ceremony Chapter 05

Inside the box lay a three-month-old embryo. Morwen stumbled back, horrified. Elias stood frozen.

As he reeled, the screen behind him, meant for his product launch, flickered to life.

The presentation was gone, replaced by a video. My face appeared, clear and calm.

“Hello, I am Isabella, Elias’s former fiancée. I apologize for this, but some truths must be revealed.”

I presented evidence. The police report, proving no improper relationship with the assailants.

Audio, videos, and bank records documenting the affair between Elias and Morwen. Then, I spoke of the past.

“Most know Elias built his success. What you may not know is that I was by his side. We weathered hardship together.”

We came from modest beginnings. Making a life was never easy. Early on, I fought alongside him.

More than once, I drank myself into the hospital covering for him.

The worst time, I suffered acute gastric bleeding, nearly dying. After, I had to step back. For years after, we endured storms before seeing a clear sky.

“When his investments failed, drowning us in debt. I went to creditors, kneeling and begging for more time, enduring contempt.”

In the end, my mother sold our home to fill the hole.

“Just as the business was finding footing, his rivals, out of jealousy, targeted me. I was… assaulted.

To protect his career, I was forced to accept a settlement.”

“We walked a difficult path, finally tasting sweetness. I never imagined on our mating ceremony, he would betray me with Morwen, a betrayal that killed my mother.

Worse, he use the trauma I endured for him as a weapon.”

A murmur rippled through the crowd. Every eye in the room turned toward Elias. He stood dumbfounded.

“Impossible. Her health was fine, no major issues… How could she die from that?”

He fumbled for his phone and frantically, dialing the hospital. The response was unexpected.

“Mrs. Hayes? She passed away three days ago. I remember, her daughter came in wearing her wedding dress.

I also recall she scheduled an abortion. Such a pity, for someone so young.”

The voice from lodged in his throat.

He could only mutter, “Not possible. I just wanted to teach her a lesson. How did it come to this?”

Voice rose, accusing him of abandoning his lover after using her, of being ungrateful and two-faced.

Elias couldn’t muster a word. He wanted only to get home, to explain.

When Morwen reached to stop him, he shoved her aside. He slammed the accelerator to the floor, racing back home.

But when he pushed open the door, he stopped dead.
