Betrayed During the Mating Ceremony Chapter 03

Staring at that face,once familiar,now a stranger’s.

I remembered the night we were to form our mate bond. I’d spent so long preparing, overcoming my trauma to be with him.

But halfway through, he made an excuse and left. After that, he kept delaying the ceremony.

I hadn’t understood the disappointment in his eyes then. I’d believed he was busy, cooking him soups every day.

Now, it made sense. He was disappointed I hadn’t saved myself for him. Disappointed I hadn’t fought to the death.

In his mind, I’d shattered his fantasy, so he had to get even. He left Morwen’s handkerchief in our bridal suite,a reminder of my “unfaithfulness.”

He chose to betray me, to destroy the ceremony I’d dreamed of.

Any more words were a waste. I picked up my coat and walked out.

A soft sigh sounded behind me. “Isabella, I’m not trying to hurt you. Just calm down. What’s done is done,we can’t change the past.

What happened with Morwen was to balance the scales. Give me time. I promise a new ceremony.

I’d lost more than a ceremony. Even gold couldn’t restore what he’d destory.

I looked out the dark window, my voice flat.

“No. Elias, I’m just glad I saw your true colors before the bond. You never deserved my heart.”

After eight years, he was used to me backing down. Faced with refusal, he was caught off guard.

He fell silent, then hurled our photo against the wall. “Don’t act high and mighty with me.

You think words can erase the past? Who else would want you but me?”

I kept walking, his anger flared. ” I control the finances. One word, and your mother’s treatment stops!”

I didn’t turn. “Do what you want. I stopped caring long ago. I pity her, after all her sacrifice, she raised a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

When his investments failed and friends turned their backs, my mother sold her home and savings into saving him. To support us, she worked sick.

To her, after all these years, he was like a son. She’d have given anything. But to him, she was leverage.

If he’d paid any attention, had any conscience, he would have known. My mother was gone.

I slammed the door, cutting him off.

I’d just settled into a hotel room when Morwen’s message flashed on my phone.

“Isabella, do you like my manicure? Alpha picked the design.”

The photo showed a pale hand over his chest, covering my tattooed name. On her finger was the wedding band I’d designed.

I knew this was his retaliation. But I didn’t care. When love dies, hatred is a luxury. Whether with Morwen or another, it stirred nothing in me.

I contacted a lawyer to untangle my shares, to sever all tie.

But I’d underestimated how low he could go.
