At Twenty-Eight, He Married My Enemy. At Eighteen, He Gave Me a Second Life. Chapter 03

Morning sunlight streamed into the hospital room.

When I opened my eyes, Ethan was standing beside my bed with a light-colored dress in his hands.

I took one look at it and laughed despite myself.

“Ethan, I’m not marrying a man who already has a wife.”

He looked at me calmly.

“Eileen, this isn’t a wedding dress. It’s a bridesmaid dress.”

For a moment, I couldn’t process what he had said.

Ethan continued, “Yesterday, you burst into Blair’s wedding and then jumped into the lake. You completely ruined the wedding she’d been looking forward to for so long. Blair isn’t going to hold you responsible. She has only one request. We’re holding the wedding again, and you’ll be her bridesmaid.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“Impossible.”

I ripped the cheap dress out of his hands and threw it to the floor, then stomped on it.

Ethan watched me in silence.

Then he turned to the doctor.

“Dr. Roberts, prepare a sedative.”

As the doctor injected me with the sedative, I gradually calmed down.

Only then did Ethan sit beside me and smooth my messy hair back into place.

“Eileen, Blair has had to keep our relationship out of the public eye all these years, and there have been a lot of ugly rumors about her. So I want you to explain everything at the wedding. Tell everyone she didn’t come between us.”

I slapped his hand away.

“In your dreams. She and her mother destroyed two families. That’s the truth!”

Ethan’s expression darkened.

Then he gave a short laugh.

“Destroyed our relationship? Blair and I had a wedding, and we’re legally married. You’re my mistress. She’s my wife!”

He was right.

Blair had a wedding, a marriage certificate, and a baby who would be born soon.

I had nothing.

Legally, I was the joke.

I collapsed back onto the hospital bed.

While the doctor gave me the sedative, Ethan blocked my view of the needle, just as he used to.

But as I looked into his eyes, all I saw was a stranger.

He lowered his head and pressed a kiss to my hair.

“Eileen, I still love you. I promise, everything Blair has, you’ll have someday too. A wedding, a ring, a child. I’ll give you all of it. But right now, I have to take care of her first.”

The medication slowly dulled my mind.

I looked at him and finally nodded.

I knew that agreeing to everything was the only way I could survive.

I no longer had the strength to fight back.

When he saw that I had agreed, Ethan smiled.

He ordered the white roses I used to love and personally filled the hospital room with them.

At noon, he brought me a cheeseburger and a milkshake from the old restaurant we used to visit in high school.

Before he left, he reminded me over and over to behave myself at the wedding.

The hospital room fell silent once more.

I sat on the edge of the bed and waited for the call from eighteen-year-old Ethan.

The moment I heard his voice, I couldn’t hold back anymore.

“He wants me to attend his wedding to Blair. Ethan, why did you become like this? Why did you end up hating me so much?”

I paused.

Then I suddenly laughed and said what had been on my mind.

“If I die at the wedding, do you think he’ll finally leave me alone?”

“Eileen!”

The boy’s voice instantly filled with panic.

He burst into tears and begged me again and again.

“Wait for me a little longer, okay? I’ve already found a way to get to you. Just give me a little more time. I swear I’ll come to you!”

I closed my eyes.

“Okay. I’ll wait for you.”
