At My Mother’s Funeral, I Was Divorced by the Mafia King Chapter 02

After finishing my mother’s funeral arrangements, I took a cab back to the villa with her memorial portrait in my arms.

The moment I stepped out of the car, it started raining.

I stood at the front door watching the raindrops glistening under the streetlights, and for a split second, it felt like I had gone back fifteen years.

It had been raining that day too.

My mother and I were heading home when we spotted a little boy beside a dumpster.

He wore a filthy T-shirt and hunched over while digging through trash.

After finally finding a moldy piece of bread, he was just about to eat it when he slipped and fell.

The bread washed straight into the storm drain with the rainwater.

He sat there on the ground while rain poured over his face.

Biting his lip hard, trying not to cry.

My mother couldn’t bear to watch it.

She walked over, grabbed his hand, and took him home with us.

He was adopted.

His foster mother gambled constantly, his foster father drank himself senseless, and subjecting him to frequent bouts of violence and starvation.

Half the time, they wouldn’t even feed him.

After learning about his situation, my mother told him he could come to our house whenever he was hungry.

And just like that—

Lucien Ferraro crashed into my world.

We were the same age.

We went to school together.

Came home together.

Whenever I had something good to eat, I always split it in half for him.

Slowly, we went from awkward strangers…

…to falling in love.

Then after college graduation, he proposed to me.

At our wedding, he knelt in front of my mother.

“Mom, thank you.”

“Thank you and Sylvia for giving me warmth when I had nothing.”

“I swear I’ll take care of both of you for the rest of my life.”

“I’ll never let either of you suffer.”

“If I ever break that promise…”

“May God strike me down.”

A flirtatious laugh suddenly drifted from inside the house, pulling me out of my memories.

“Oh, stop…”

“The doctor said we have to wait until the second trimester before we can… be intimate.”

“Husband, just behave a little longer, okay?”

Lucien’s deep voice sounded next.

“You little tease.”

“How am I supposed to control myself around you?”

“In one week, you’ll hit three months.”

“And that’ll be our wedding night too.”

“Then we’ll see how you survive me.”

My grip tightened around my mother’s portrait.

I took a deep breath and walked inside.

On the couch, Raven straddled Lucien’s lap with half her chest exposed.

She was even wearing my pajamas.

Neither of them looked ashamed in the slightest after seeing me.

Raven shot me a provocative look and deliberately tugged the neckline even lower.

Lucien squeezed her thigh hard before turning toward me dismissively.

“So?”

“You made your decision already?”

I said nothing.

Just nodded and handed him the divorce papers.

Lucien took the agreement.

The second he saw my signature agreeing to the divorce, he froze briefly.

He clearly hadn’t expected me to agree so easily.

Something inside him suddenly tightened.

“You don’t have to worry,” he said quickly.

“I already talked it through with Raven.”

“Once the baby’s officially registered into the Ferraro family, we’ll divorce.”

“Then you and I can remarry.”

“Whatever.”

I answered flatly and started walking toward the bedroom with my mother’s portrait still in my arms.

“Wait.”

Lucien stopped me.

I turned around in confusion.

“That room belongs to Raven now.”

“What?”

The words slipped out before I could stop them.

Lucien frowned immediately, looking annoyed.

“That room gets the most sunlight and fresh air.”

“Raven’s pregnant.”

“Sylvia, you should have the decency to know your place.”

I glanced at Raven.

She laughed softly.

“Oh, I told Lucien I didn’t need it.”

“But he insisted.”

She gently rubbed her stomach, smiling smugly.

“Well… I am carrying Don Ferraro’s first child.”

“Of course he has to be careful with me.”

“Right, Donna?”

Even after everything, her words still stabbed straight into my chest.

I lowered my gaze toward my empty stomach.

My eyes burned red instantly.

“Oh, right,” Lucien added casually.

“The maid’s on leave lately.”

“And since you already have experience taking care of sick people while looking after your mother, I didn’t hire another one.”

He wrapped an arm around Raven’s waist and stood up.

“So from now on, you’ll handle Raven’s daily care.”

Raven stroked her stomach proudly and smiled at me.

“Guess I’ll have to trouble you for a while then, Donna.”
