Three years into our marriage, he came home reeking of Chanel No.5-its scent still fresh on his clothes.

Tears streamed down my face instantly as I confronted him, demanding answers.

He pulled me into his arms, swearing up and down that it was just from a client karaoke night-that he’d

never cheat on me.

I believed him.

“What else can a man do at work dinners? Will you stop being so unreasonable!”

Ethan started staying out all night, night after night.

I stared at Ethan.

The man in front of me bore no trace of the boy I’d once loved.

That young man who’d squatted with me at the subway entrance, sharing a single stuffed wrap-maybe he’d only ever existed in my imagination.

Time hadn’t destroyed him.

It had merely revealed his true self.

The version I’d never really seen.

After a long silence, I closed my eyes.

Meeting Jasper later was an accident.

Back then, I’d been trying to get back at Ethan-spending his money recklessly on male companions every

That evening, I was dead drunk. The manager had sent over five different guys, but none caught my eye.
