Alpha, I Won’t Be Your Luna Again Chapter 10

Alpha, I Won’t Be Your Luna Again Chapter 10

When the hearing ended and I’d just stepped out the courthouse doors, Lillian suddenly came charging out.

Her face was sallow, her hair a mess. One look and you could tell how rough the last stretch had been.

“Nathan!”

She lunged to grab him, but the Territory Guard held her back.

“You can’t take the whole blame! If you confess to all of it, what happens to ME?!”

“They said I’m a joint offender! The court wants me to pay damages too! I lost my job, my accounts got banned, you PROMISED you’d protect me!”

Nathan slowly lifted his head and looked at her, his eyes hollow.

“Protect you?”

He suddenly laughed, cold and empty.

“You’re the one who kept saying she was faking it.”

“You’re the one who stood by the Pack Medical Center phone and told them not to send a truck.”

“You’re the one who stole her mother’s bracelet and pawned it.”

“You’re the one who threw the baby in her face at the hospital.”

“Lillian, the biggest regret of my life is trusting you.”

Lillian’s face changed, and she shrieked.

“Don’t shove it all onto ME! YOU’RE the one who said to lock her in the house first! YOU’RE the one who told the Pack Emergency Center her calls didn’t matter! I just went ALONG with you!”

The second those words came out, everything around us went still.

Several investigators turned to look at her.

Lillian realized she’d said too much. The color drained from her face.

“Lillian, everything you just said is on record. Come back with us to add to your statement.”

“I’m not going! I didn’t say anything! I didn’t —”

She was dragged off, struggling, sobbing until her makeup ran, her voice shrill and shaking.

“Nathan! Save me! SAVE ME —”

Nathan stood there and didn’t move an inch.

I watched it all, then turned and walked away.

Behind me, his voice came.

“Mira.”

I stopped, but didn’t turn around.

His voice was hoarse.

“I’m sorry.”

I said, flatly, “Save those words for yourself.”

Then I got in the car.

The verdict came fast.

The mate bond was dissolved.

Not long after, the outcome on Lillian’s side came in too.

She lost on the misappropriation, false statements, and joint-liability claims, and was ordered to pay her share of the damages.

On top of that, for repeatedly lying and obstructing the investigation, she was booked and detained at the county jail, and later hit with criminal charges.

Her employer fired her the first chance they got.

People dug up every skeletons-in-the-closet secret from her social media profile.

The videos she’d used to farm followers as the sweet, innocent first love got passed around and mocked one by one, until the whole thing was banned.

She got word to me through someone that she wanted to see me.

I went.

In the mediation room, she’d wasted away to nothing. The second she saw me, her eyes went red and she screamed.

“Why do you have to hound me to DEATH?!”

I almost laughed.

“Me? Hound you?”

“Isn’t that what you’re doing?!” Her voice shot up. “You got your divorce, you got the house, you got your payout, Nathan’s ruined too — why won’t you let me GO?”

I looked at her, my tone as casual as if I were talking about the weather.

“Did I tell you to stand by the 911 line and say don’t save me?”

Her face stiffened.

“Did I tell you to steal my mother’s bracelet?”

She bit her lip and said nothing.

“Did I tell you to walk into a hospital and throw my just-lost baby in my face?”

Her eyes started darting away.

I leaned in slightly, staring at her.

“Lillian, it’s not that I won’t let you off.”

“You did this to yourself, one step at a time.”

Like I’d hit a nerve, she suddenly shrieked.

“But your baby’s already GONE!”

The room went silent.

Her eyes were red, and she kept going like she had nothing left to lose.

“So what if you won? You’ll remember for the rest of your life how he DIED!”

I stood up and slapped her across the face.

CRACK.

She clutched her cheek, frozen.

I shook out my stinging hand, my voice cold and even.

“That slap’s for the pup you helped kill.”

“Remember this. I didn’t hound you to death.”

“You were just too greedy, too vicious, and too stupid.”

With that, I turned and walked out.

Behind me she screamed herself hoarse. I didn’t stop, not once.
