After They Stole My Life, Reborn I Called Another Man Dad Chapter 14

Chloe burst into tears and ran out of the room.

Austin shot me a furious look.

“Zoe, happy now?”

Before I could say anything, Ethan coldly snapped,

“Kid, get the hell out of my hospital room.”

The police quickly pieced together what had happened.

Security footage from the convenience store next to the Photo Studio showed Chloe deliberately buying a lighter before she went inside.

After the fire started, she didn’t call for help immediately.

She stood outside for several seconds.

It wasn’t until she saw Ethan rush into the burning building that she panicked.

Her claim that it had all been an “accident” was getting harder and harder to defend.

My biological mother and Austin started coming to me, begging me to drop the matter.

They offered to compensate me privately.

I rejected every offer.

Finally, Austin slammed a settlement agreement down in front of me.

“Five million dollars. Is that enough?”

I didn’t answer.

He clenched his jaw.

“Ten million, then.”

I shook my head.

His expression darkened instantly.

“Zoe, don’t get greedy.”

“I don’t want your money.”

I looked him straight in the eye.

“I want her to take responsibility for what she did.”

That same night, I gave my lawyer Ethan’s hospital records, scanned copies of the original photo negatives, and a written statement from the nurse who had worked at the hospital eighteen years

ago.

Arthur finally learned the truth.

For eighteen years, he had been the only one who genuinely believed the baby switch had been a hospital accident.

He rushed home and confronted Eleanor.

By the time I arrived, the two of them had already been arguing for a long time.

Arthur picked up the medical record bearing Eleanor’s signature and slammed it onto the table.

“You knew?”

Eleanor shook her head through her tears.

“I just… I just wanted to protect Chloe.”

She broke down.

“In my last life, Chloe got hurt because Zoe came back. I couldn’t take that chance again.”

Arthur stared at her in disbelief.

“So you were willing to gamble with your own daughter?”

Eleanor burst into tears.

“I never wanted to hurt Zoe!”

I stood in the doorway.

I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a bitter laugh.

“Right. You never wanted to hurt me.”

I looked at her.

“You just never thought about me when you made any of your decisions.”

Arthur suddenly walked toward me.

There was helplessness in his voice as he reached out, almost as if he wanted to touch my head.

“Sweetheart, I honestly had no idea what you had been through all these years.”

I quietly stepped back.

His hand stopped in midair.

Guilt filled his eyes.

After a long silence, he spoke again.

“Can we keep what happened back then out of the public eye for now?”

He struggled to explain.

“The company is in the middle of negotiating a major round of financing. If people find out that your mother deliberately switched the babies eighteen years ago, our business partners will start reassessing their relationships with us.”

I stared at him.

For a moment, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

Even now, he was thinking about the company first.
