After They Stole My Life, Reborn I Called Another Man Dad Chapter 10

The next day, the Miller family withdrew their report.

Ethan came home soon after.

This time, I was waiting for him outside the police station.

When he walked out and saw me, he stared for a long inōment.

Then he reached over and ruffled my hair.

“Let’s go home.”

I followed him.

We’d only gone a few steps when I couldn’t help calling out.

“Dad.”

“Hm?”

“Nothing.”

He gave me an annoyed sideways glance.

I smiled anyway.

I’d thought everything would finally settle down after that.

I was wrong.

Chloe simply found a new way to get what she wanted.

She started seeking Ethan out constantly.

The first time, she went to Sarah’s grave.

The second time, she said she wanted to see the photographs Sarah had left behind from before she

was born.

The third time, she showed up outside the photo studio with a paternity test in her hand.

And for the first time, she called him:

“Dad.”

Ethan visibly stiffened.

Chloe’s eyes immediately filled with tears.

“I know you’re angry with me, but I didn’t know why I was switched with her either. I want a dad

too.”

She wasn’t wrong for saying that.

So Ethan didn’t turn her away.

After that, he took her to Sarah’s grave and brought flowers.

He showed her pictures of Sarah when she was young.

He told her what Sarah loved to eat and what she couldn’t stand.

I never tried to stop them.

But Chloe clearly wasn’t satisfied.

She didn’t just want another father.

She wanted Ethan to be hers alone.

One afternoon, I came home from school and pushed open my bedroom door.

My belongings were scattered everywhere.

Chloe was sitting on my bed.

Austin was standing beside her.

My face immediately darkened.

“How did you get in here?”

Austin casually held up a key.

“Mom took it from your backpack.”

I looked toward my bed.

The metal box where I kept Sarah’s belongings had been opened.

Every letter was spread across the bed.

A wave of fury crashed over me.

“Get out!”

Chloe didn’t even flinch.

She picked up one of the letters and waved it in front of me.

“My mom wrote this to me. Why shouldn’t I be allowed to read it?”

I lunged for it.

She tore it open before I could stop her.

It had been written when Sarah was eight months pregnant.

[The baby kicked again today. Your dad says you’re probably going to take after me and have a terrible temper. I told him I hope you don’t. If you get my temper, life is going to be a lot harder for

you.]

The letter was short.

There wasn’t a single deliberately sentimental line in it.

But I’d read it countless times.

Chloe finished reading.

Then she started crying.

“She really was looking forward to having me.”

The tension in my hand slowly loosened.

Then, in the next second, she folded the letter carefully and slipped it into her bag.

I grabbed her wrist.

My voice turned cold.

“You can read it. You can’t take it. It’s mine.”

Chloe suddenly smiled.

“Zoe Vance, you’re unbelievable.”

The Millers want to claim you as family now. My biological father raised you for eighteen years.

And now you’re saying even my biological mother’s belongings belong to you.”

“How much more do you plan to take?”

I stared at her.

Then I fired right back.

“What about you?”

“My biological parents. My biological brother. The bedroom that was supposed to be mine. My birthdays. Eighteen years‘ worth of photographs.”

“Are you going to give those back too?”

She shot to her feet.

“Why the hell should I?”

I nodded.

“Exactly.”

“Then why the hell should I?”
