After They Stole My Life, Reborn I Called Another Man Dad Chapter 07

Things should have ended there.

But a few days later, an anonymous post suddenly appeared on a local community message board

and in the school newspaper’s online forum.

The headline read:

[I’ve spent eighteen years living with the wrong family, and now I can’t even get back the one thing my biological mother left me.]

The post never mentioned my name.

But it included the baby picture.

My face had been blurred out.

Ethan’s hadn’t.

In the post, Chloe claimed that she’d been switched at birth and that her biological mother had

already passed away.

She’d finally found her biological father, only to discover that he’d given all the love meant for his wife and daughter to another girl.

She said she didn’t want money.

She didn’t want to destroy anyone’s family.

She only wanted the little knit hat her biological mother had made by hand.

It didn’t take long for people to identify my family’s Photo Studio.

Some commenters accused me of stealing someone else’s father for eighteen years and then refusing to return her own mother’s belongings.

Others argued that eighteen years of love and being raised as family couldn’t simply be erased because two babies had been switched.

The gossip spread fast.

People argued nonstop.

But Ethan was the one who suffered the most.

Several family portrait sessions that had already been booked were suddenly canceled.

People started leaving nasty reviews in the Yellow Pages and on local community boards.

Then someone showed up outside the Photo Studio and taped a sheet of printer paper to the door.

[Give her mother back.]

Ethan looked at it once.

Then he tore it down and opened the studio like he did every other day.

But that night, I found him sitting alone in the darkroom.

The little knit hat was sitting on the table in front of him.

I stood in the doorway.

My voice came out hoarse.

“If you really think she should have it, then give it to her.”

Ethan looked up.

His expression was more serious than I’d ever seen it.

“Don’t become like your biological mother.”

I froze.

He put the knit hat back into the metal box.

As he did, he said, “Your biological mother spent all her time worrying about someone else’s feelings. She took things that should have belonged to her own child and used them to make another child feel better.”

Chloe hadn’t managed to get the hat through public pressure.

But Austin stepped in.

Someone anonymously reported Ethan to the Police Department and Child Protective Services.

The report claimed that the girls hadn’t been switched by accident at the hospital eighteen years

ago.

It alleged that Ethan had known from the beginning that I wasn’t his biological daughter and had

eliberately taken me away.

The report even used the words “child trafficking” and “illegal child transfer.”

The police quickly showed up at our Photo Studio.

Ethan was taken in for questioning.

Before long, curious neighbors crowded the hallway outside.

“That’s him?”

“He looks like such a normal guy.”

“No wonder he refused to give the kid back.”

By the time I arrived, Ethan was already getting into the police car.

But the first thing he said when he saw me wasn’t about the investigation.

It was:

“There’s food in the fridge for tonight. Don’t eat another can of soup.”

My eyes immediately filled with tears.
