After Ten Years of Revenge, He Built Time Machine Bring Me Back Chapter 13

Every raw conflicting emotion surged to the surface all at once within Sias at those words

He pulled her tight against his chest.

“I’m a monster, Blower. A worthless animal. Let me take you away from all this fith right now. You’ll never

have to stay near him again.

Elowen gently pushed him off, stepping over to Amos’s side to cup his brused cheek soily, whispering a

quiet question to check if he was hurt.

She turned back to Silas, every word cold and unyielding.

“I don’t need your charity. I’ve never been happier than living with him. If you hadn’t abandoned me here, i

never would’ve met the only kind person this world’s ever given me. His name’s Amos. Don’t refer to him like

garbage ever again.”

Silas’s heart tore clean open with jealousy and endless agony. He couldn’t tell if her words were spoken out

of genuine affection or only spite meant to wound him.

His expression hardened, warring rage and sorrow tangled in his gaze.

“Do you truly care for him this deeply?”

No matter what stood between them, Silas held all the wealth and power in the city. He could erase Amos

from her life forever if he chose to.

“I do,” Elowen replied flat.

“Will you hurt him the way you hurt my father and Lila?”

Silence hung heavy. It didn’t matter anyway.

She only had three short months left to live.

Three years prior, the moment her heart had stopped beating in the slums, Amos had carried her to an

experimental oncology research lab by pure luck.

Scientists there had administered an unapproved experimental targeted drug that bought her three extra

years of life.

Now the drug’s effects were fading completely. Nothing could halt the spread of her cancer anymore.

Amos collected palliative medication for her every few days to dull the agony, but the tumors kept spreading

regardless of treatment. Her illness was far beyond any hope of recovery.

The second she finished speaking, a brutal wave of stomach pain crashed over Elowen. She crumpled forward, collapsing straight into Amos’s arms.

Amos scrambled to grab the scattered pill bottles off the pavement, fumbling to hand them to her.

“Take your medicine, Elowen, it’ll ease the ache.”

Silas stepped forward in a single long stride, shoving Amos hard enough to send the pills flying across the

concrete.

“Don’t you dare speak her name like you have the right to it,” he snarled. “What cheap garbage medication are

you forcing her to swallow?”

Amos knelt to gather the spilled tablets without a single flinch from the blow, holding them back out toward

Elowen’s lips.

“Just take your pills, it’ll stop hurting.”

Silas’s eyes narrowed, sharp suspicion burning in his chest. How had a woman diagnosed with terminal

gastric cancer three years prior survived this long in the squalor of the slums?

He picked one loose pill off the ground, handing it to his waiting assistant.

“Run full lab analysis on every component of this drug immediately.”

“There’s no point wasting your time,” Elowen said, grabbing the pills back from Amos and swallowing them

dry. Her voice empty, devoid of all hope.

“I only have roughly ninety days left to live. Even if you hate me this much, grant me a peaceful end. Even

convicts get one final decent meal before execution.”

Her soft, calm words hit Silas like a nuclear blast to the skull.

Ninety days.

“Elowen, this is a lie you’re telling to make me back off, isn’t it? You’re scared I’ll keep punishing you, so you

pretend you’re dying.”

“I won’t lay a hand on you ever again,” he promised, desperate.

His assistant returned at that moment, clutching a full toxicology and medical analysis report.

“Sir, these are strictly palliative care pain suppressants prescribed for terminal late-stage patients.”

Palliative care. Silas knew exactly what that phrase meant.

His fingers trembled so hard he could barely grip the printed pages of the report.

The universe had handed him a cruel joke. He’d finally found Elowen, only to learn she had mere weeks left

to breathe.

Why punish him through her suffering, when all his crimes were his alone to bear?

Flowen watched his shattered, grief-stricken face, a thin mocking smile tugging at her lips.

You believe me now?”

“If you’ve no further business, Amos and I are heading home.”

She looped her arm through Amos’s, turning to walk away without casting Silas a single backward glance.

A deadly darkness swept over Silas’s features. He stepped forward, striking the side of Elowen’s skull with a

precise blow that knocked her unconscious instantly, catching her limp body before she hit the ground.

“No one’s taking you away to die,” he said coldly to his team. “Bring the entire oncology research lab’s lead specialists to my private estate immediately. Spend any amount of money necessary to save her life.”
