After Ten Years of Revenge, He Built Time Machine Bring Me Back Chapter 04

That single plea shattered every scrap of pride Elowen had left.

Silas’s eyes blew wide with shock.

Through years of unending torment, Elowen had never once begged for mercy.

When the group of boys broke her arm senior year, she hadn’t shed a single tear.

When he’d torn up her Ivy League Acceptance Letter after her perfect SAT scores, she hadn’t cried.

When he sabotaged every decent job opportunity and forced her to beg on the streets, she’d never knelt for anyone.

Even when he sentenced her to three years behind bars, all she’d said was leave Lila out of this, I’ll take all the punishment.

Now she knelt beneath him, bony fingers clutching his trousers, posture broken and degraded beyond repair.

Silas should’ve felt triumphant.

Instead, a furious, unidentifiable rage bubbled up in his chest. He took several deep breaths, forcing a cold, mocking smirk onto his face.

“Begging isn’t done like this, Elowen.”

He hooked a finger under her chin, tilting her face upward.

“Entertain me. Show me how far you’re willing to sink.”

He was convinced she was putting on an act, playing on the soft spot he’d once held for her to gain sympathy.

Without warning, Elowen pulled her uniform over her head and climbed onto his lap.

Her lips brushed his tentatively, clumsy and unfamiliar with intimacy after years of abuse.

Silas’s body ached to pull her close, but his hatred snapped him back to reality in an instant.

His fingers dug hard into her jaw, sharp and bruising.

“What a cheap, vile thing you’ve become.”

“Do you remember what I was enduring while you attacked my mother? I was laid out on an operating table, recovering from smoke damage to my vocal cords after rushing into that fire to save you. The pain was so brutal I couldn’t even speak to confront you once I woke up.”

“What did I ever do to deserve you trying to kill my mother?”

Before Margaret’s fall, he’d reassured Elowen there was nothing to worry about ahead of his surgery.

When doctors told him the operation was a success, his first thought had been how relieved Elowen would be to know he’d recovered.

Then the news of Margaret’s fall crashed over him like lightning.

His mother critically injured, his lover labeled her attacker.

Silas had refused to believe it at first, but security footage was presented as irrefutable proof. He’d had no choice but to accept the lie.

Elowen’s eyes fell shut, enduring the burning stomach pain in silence as he ranted.

When he finished speaking, she leaned in to kiss his jaw gently once more.

“If I satisfy you now, will you sign that employment slip for me?”

Silas wasn’t the only one drowning in pain.

Silas flipped her flat against the leather couch, crashing his lips against hers in punishing, rough kisses that stole every breath from her lungs.

Elowen thrashed beneath him, hands scraping against his back as she fought to breathe.

He pulled away for a split second, cold malice dripping from every word.

“You were desperate to seduce me a minute ago—don’t act innocent now if you want that paper.”

He crashed back down over her, stealing her air all over again.

Elowen’s cheeks burned bright red, horrified at how desperate she’d become to see Lila.

“Stop squirming.” Silas snarled.

She twisted hard in his grip, tearing the fabric of his dress shirt open.

Her fingertips brushed the large, raised scar across his back—the mark left when he’d shielded her from falling burning debris inside the storage wing fire all those years ago.

All fight drained out of her instantly.

Her chest ached with bitter sorrow. Silas had hurt her more than anyone alive, yet she couldn’t bring herself to hate him fully.

Silas froze when he felt warm tears hit his collarbone, his hand lifting instinctively to brush the wetness from her cheek.

The private booth door slammed open before he could touch her.

Celia stood in the doorway, eyes blown wide with shock.

“You two…”

She burst into sobs and ran from the room.

“Celia, wait!” Silas pushed off Elowen to chase her.

Elowen grabbed the hem of his shirt to stop him.

“My employment paperwork, Mr. Voss.”

He glanced over his shoulder, disgust thick in his gaze.

“You think your petty request matters more than Celia’s hurt feelings?”

He ripped her hand away hard, the words slamming into her chest like lead weights.

“Stay here. Celia needs someone to take her anger out on later.”

Elowen pulled two generic pain capsules from her pocket, swallowing them dry to hide the blood welling in her throat.

Anger, huh.

She’d endure whatever came. The pills would dull the agony long enough to hold on.
