After Six Miscarriages, I Carried Someone Else’s IVF Baby Chapter 06

After Six Miscarriages, I Carried Someone Else’s IVF Baby Chapter 06

Dario’s entire body was rigid, the veins bulging across his clenched fists.

His scarlet eyes stared at the two of them as if he wanted to devour them alive.

Marco was startled.

He was about to curse, but when he saw Dario, he scrambled off the bed and fell to his knees,

shaking violently.

“Boss, you heard wrong. The one who saved you was Miss Chiara. I was just… I was just joking with her.”

Listening to that pathetic excuse, Dario shut his eyes hard.

A deathly, violent aura surrounded him.

“Bone-breaking nails? How dare you?”

He suddenly pulled the gun from his waist and fired twice into Marco’s knees.

Marco rolled across the floor, screaming in pain.

Dario crouched, grabbed him by the throat, and forced each word out between his teeth.

“Who saved me back then? Say it clearly.”

“Caro Dario, Marco was having an affair with Ann. I caught them just now. That’s why he threatened me. Kill him-”

Bang.

The bullet scraped past Chiara’s face and lodged in the wall behind her.

Dario turned his head, ignoring her deathly pale face.

There was no trace of tenderness or pity left in his eyes, only terrifying killing intent.

“Say one more word about my wife, and I’ll kill you.”

Marco knew disaster had arrived.

Thinking about how he had fallen this far because of Chiara, only for the woman to turn on him and try to throw him under the bus, he gritted his teeth.

Dragging his ruined legs, he grabbed Dario’s pant leg and cried like a dog pulled from the water.

“Boss, I was wrong. It was all Chiara. That bitch seduced me and pushed me to lie. Eight years ago, the one who saved you was Ann. To save you, she broke two ribs and was left with a crescent-shaped scar on her right shoulder. She stayed in the hospital for two months. After Chiara found out, she deliberately had someone make her an identical mark.”

“Boss, I lost my mind and let that bitch fool me. In the alley that day, she was also the one who cursed Ann as a whore and called her child a bastard. I was wrong. I know I was wrong. Please spare me, Boss!”

Dario quickly caught the word “bastard.”

He knew about using Ann’s womb to carry a child for Chiara.

But Chiara would never call her own child a bastard.

He seemed to realize something, and it was as if a club struck him across the skull.

His hands began shaking violently beyond his control.

“The child in Ann’s belly isn’t Chiara’s embryo?”

Marco shook his head again and again, as if clutching his last chance at life.

“Boss, the child in Ann’s belly is yours. Chiara changed her mind at the last minute. She said once Ann was close to giving birth, she’d make the baby die inside her. Then she’d tell you Ann found out the truth about the IVF and killed the child on purpose. After Chiara cried to you once, she could provoke you into killing Ann in a rage.”

“All of it was Chiara’s idea. It had nothing to do with me. Boss, please spare me!”

Hearing Marco turn on her, Chiara stopped pretending to be sick.

She jumped off the bed and began punching and kicking him.

Marco’s legs were broken, but he was still strong.

He grabbed Chiara by the hair and slammed her to the ground.

The two of them instantly tangled into a fight, cursing as they exposed every filthy thing they had done over the years, each desperate to pin the blame on the other.

The more Dario heard, the more hopeless he became.

His entire heart felt pierced through by a sharp blade, and the pain made him let out a strangled

sob.

Three years.

So Ann had been the woman he loved most all along.

And those six living children had been his too.

Agony broke him.

He roared and fired several shots in a row.

His men outside rushed in and froze at the scene before them.

Dario was covered in blood, his eyes manic as he pointed at Marco’s dead body on the floor.

“Drag him out. Chop him up and feed him to the dogs.”

On the bed, his phone vibrated.

Chiara, shot but not yet unconscious, screamed and tried to grab it.

Dario kicked her away.

He snatched the phone, thinking it was a message from Ann.

The moment he opened it, the smile on his face froze.

In the video, Ann was lifted high and thrown into a crocodile pool.

[As you wished. Fed to the fish.]

“No-”

A broken scream tore from his throat.

Only when he exited did he see the blackmail message from the rival boss above and Chiara’s reply.

He had no time to be angry.

In panic, he dialed the number.

The man who had never changed expression even under gunfire was now trembling all over, his

face as pale as paper.

The moment the call connected, he begged.

“One billion. No, two billion. I’ll give you all of it. Save my wife right now!”

A short laugh came from the phone.

Dario immediately ordered his men to transfer two billion.

One of his men tried to stop him.

“Boss, that’s all the liquid cash we have. Volkov is cunning. Donna may not be in his hands. Maybe he’s tricking us. We should investigate first—”

“Get out.”

Dario roared and transferred the money without another word.

In less than a minute, Volkov sent a few words back.

[Sorry, Don Dario. You were the one who said to feed her to the fish. You changed your mind too late. The bones have already been picked clean. We only found one shoe. For the sake of your two billion, I had it wrapped up and sent to you.]

Dario collapsed onto the floor, his whole body numb.

The bloodstained shoe was delivered quickly.

Delivered with it were the divorce papers Ann had left behind and the medical report from eight

years ago.

Dario held them in his arms like a man who had lost his soul, laughing and sobbing like a madman.

By then, I had already left Sicily.

With the help of Doctor Raffaele Costa, I had boarded a plane with the Doctors Without Borders

team.

When I woke up, my teammates gathered around me, overjoyed.

“Ann, you’re finally awake! How do your legs feel? Thank God we have Doctor Raffaele, our surgical master. The nails have been removed, and your legs are saved.”

Looking at my bandaged legs and the worry in Doctor Raffaele’s eyes, I felt so ashamed I did not know where to hide.

Back then, I had been one of the most promising surgeons in the field, surrounded by partners who

shared the same ideals.

At the peak of my career, I chose a man and gave up my future.

My teammates had been disappointed, but they still blessed me.

Especially Doctor Raffaele.

I still remembered the helpless disappointment in his eyes.

Now that I had fallen into such a miserable state, only they had not abandoned me.

Only they had helped me escape that cage.

Everyone in the cabin looked at me with kindness and understanding.

Tears of joy filled my eyes.

“I’m sorry, everyone. I won’t leave the team again. From now on, I’ll follow you across the world and do what I was truly meant to do.”

Doctor Raffaele took out a handkerchief and wiped my tears.

“Ann, having you back is our team’s honor. Don’t blame yourself. You’ve always been the best.”

Someone winked and laughed.

“No one is happier about Ann’s return than Doctor Raffaele. Good thing he’s been silently waiting for you all these years and stayed single.”

I stared at Doctor Raffaele in shock.

His face turned faintly red, and he pressed his lips together.

“My feelings are my own business. You don’t have to feel burdened. I respect every decision you

make.”

“There’s one more thing.” He looked at me hesitantly. “I’m sorry, Ann. The child was compressed during the fall into the sea. We couldn’t save it.”

I touched my stomach blankly.

Then I sighed for that brief little life.

Perhaps it was better this way.

From now on, Dario and I would be completely cut off.

There would be no more ties between us.

After that, my team and I devoted ourselves fully to humanitarian medical work, traveling through war-torn countries and using what little strength we had to pull dying people back from the edge.

Children wove flower crowns for me.

Adults prepared whatever food and simple cloth they could spare.

We gathered around bonfires, praying and singing for hope in the brief gaps when the fighting quieted.

Those vivid, living acts of kindness gave me a satisfaction I had never known.

Only after two short years did I finally feel truly alive.

I just never expected that one day, I would see Dario again.
