After Rebirth, My Rejecting Alpha’s Regret Chapter 03

After Rebirth, My Rejecting Alpha’s Regret Chapter 03

When I got to the estate, my mother, Victoria, was discussing Faye’s wedding dress with the pack’s head designer.

I walked over. “Mrs. Moore.”

Victoria paused. She looked at me in surprise.

Ever since I came home, my parents made me call them “Mrs. Moore” and “Mr. Moore” in public.

I was upset. Why could Faye, the adopted daughter who was switched at birth, call them Mom and Dad, but I couldn’t?

So no matter where I was, I stubbornly called them Mom and Dad. I wanted everyone to know I was the Moore family’s real daughter.

I was punished for it, three days kneeling, a hundred lashes. I endured every punishment the Moores could devise.

Finally, they realized I was too stubborn. They eventually stopped caring and let me do as I pleased.

In the past life, I could never accept that they didn’t love me.

But in this new life, I realized none of that mattered.

Under Victoria’s suspicious gaze, I made a request. “I heard the Alpha King is cursed and needs a blood bonded mate to break it. I want to volunteer.”

Victoria frowned. “Even if he breaks the curse, he’ll be bedridden for the rest of his life. That’s hardly a suitable match. What are you really after?”

I ignored her suspicious look. “He’s still the Alpha King. A fallen king is still more powerful than a common wolf. The influence behind him could elevate Mr. Moore within the council.”

Victoria thought for a moment. “I’ll discuss it with Mason when he gets back.”

I let out a quiet breath of relief. I exchanged a few more polite words and went back to my room.

When it got dark, a servant came to get me. Mason wanted to see me in his study.

I hurried over.

As soon as I walked in, Mason asked, “Why do you want to marry the Alpha King?”

I started repeating what I’d told Victoria.

He cut me off. “Don’t say it’s for my career. I know it’s not that simple.”

I bit my lip. “You’re right. It isn’t that simple. Your career is part of it, but what I really want is for you, for the Moore family, to truly recognize me as your daughter.”

The Alpha King wanted a noble she-wolf. And I was just an adopted daughter of the Moores. He would never look twice at me.

But that was only one reason.

Knowing Faye, she would keep plotting against Ryan and me. If I didn’t secure a marriage soon, I had no idea what she might do next.

Mason frowned, considering. “We’ll talk about this later.”

I lowered my eyes and said softly, “Mr. Moore.”

Mason’s eyes widened. He looked surprised. This was the first time he’d heard me call him that.

I didn’t wait for his reaction. “I know you’re worried about upsetting Faye. But don’t worry. Acknowledging me publicly would only be for show.”

“In front of others, I’ll call you Mom and Dad. In private, I’ll go back to calling you Mrs. and Mr. Moore. I won’t take Faye’s place. She’ll always be your only daughter that matters.”

Mason’s face darkened. He slammed his papers on the desk and yelled. “Do you really think I would sell my daughter to advance my career?”

“No,” I said calmly. “You’re not selling me. I’m the one asking for too much. I’m the one pushing you to marry me off. If you don’t agree, I’ll find a way to steal Faye’s mate.”

As soon as I said that, Mason’s wolf lunged at me. I didn’t dodge or fight back. I let his wolf grab my throat.

His claws dug in. Blood dripped down. I didn’t even blink.

Just as he was about to squeeze harder, Faye’s scent came closer. Mason’s expression changed. His wolf backed off.

He would never let Faye see his cruel side.

He pointed at the door. “Get out!”

I turned and left without another word. A smile curled on my lips.

My wolf spoke in my mind. “Stephanie, you may have made things worse. Why are you smiling?”

I said with certainty, “Don’t worry. Faye will go to Mason later and twist everything about Ryan and me.”

“And neither of them knows about her relationship with James White. To keep me from taking Ryan and upsetting Faye, the Moores will acknowledge me by tomorrow night.”

The next day, Mason came back from a pack council meeting. He called me to his study. He looked at me, his gaze was complicated.

“The Alpha King accepted your offer. In three days, we’ll hold the recognition ceremony at the Moore estate. In one month, you and Faye will have your bonding ceremonies on the same day.”

I smiled, genuinely this time. “Thank you, Mr. Moore.”
