After Rebirth My Class Beauty Led Cheating and I Stayed Silent Chapter 07

The first night after the SAT.

The class group chat was unnaturally quiet.

From five o’clock, when the last section ended, until ten that night, there was nothing.

Not one message.

That wasn’t normal. With Sienna’s social butterfly tendencies, the first thing she should have done after the SAT was drop a celebratory voice note, organize dinner somewhere, and post selfies.

But she said nothing.

Grant said nothing. Brielle said nothing. Ethan said nothing.

Despite the group boasting forty-three members, the screen sat frozen at zero new messages.

Only Delaney messaged me around seven.

Delaney:[Is anyone setting up dinner tonight?]

Me:[Haven’t heard anything.]

Delaney:[…That’s weird.]

I set my phone down and looked out the window.

It was fully dark outside, and the streetlights cast shifting silhouettes of sycamore leaves across my

curtains.

At 10:23, the chat finally moved.

Not Sienna.

Ethan.

He sent a plain text message. No emojis. No filler.

Ethan:[Has anyone gotten hold of Sienna? She’s not answering calls or messages.]

Three seconds later, Brielle replied.

Brielle: [I can’t reach her either! I waited outside Building A for half an hour after the test and she

never came out!]

Grant: [Relax. Maybe her phone died.]

Brielle:[How is it still dead now??? It’s been almost five hours??)

Then Macy popped in.

Macy:[Guys, my mom just got a call from the school. They told her to bring me to the administration office at nine tomorrow morning. They didn’t say why.]

The chat went silent for eight full seconds.

Then the messages started erupting like a burst dam.

My mom got a call too!

Same here! Nine o’clock tomorrow!

What happened??

No way no way no way…

Grant sent a long voice message. I played it. His voice sounded tight, but he was still trying to hold everyone together.

“Don’t panic. It’s probably just a routine post-exam review. They do stuff like this every year. Don’t scare yourselves. And even if something really did happen, they don’t have evidence. The tech was destroyed as soon as the test ended.”

Destroyed.

I thought of the two black sedans parked outside Building A that afternoon.

If investigators had secured the students while they were still in their seats, then whether the devices got destroyed afterward was entirely irrelevant.

I didn’t say a word in the chat.

I hadn’t received a call from the school either.

Because I wasn’t on the list.

I turned off my phone, took a shower, and lay down in bed.

The curtains lifted slightly in the night breeze.

The ceiling looked the same as it had the night before. White. Flat. Unbroken.

[They still don’t know what happened.]

[In twelve hours, they will.]

i closed my eyes.

In the dark, my heartbeat kept its steady rhythm, quiet and precise as a clock.

I slept well.

Dreamless all night.
