After My Future Husband’s Video, I Took $100 Million and Vanished Chapter 11

The door clicked shut behind me.

With it, Julian’s heart-wrenching scream, raw and desperate like a wounded animal making its

final cry, was sealed away on the other side.

Ethan opened the large black umbrella and wrapped an arm securely around me, shielding me from

the steady autumn rain as we walked to the car.

The moment I settled into my seat, a sickening crash echoed from high above the hospital.

A split second later, piercing alarms erupted, followed by terrified screams from people outside.

I didn’t learn the truth until later.

The instant that door closed, Julian had ripped every tube and monitor out of his body.

Dragging himself forward with flesh torn open and blood trailing behind him, he had climbed out the hospital window and thrown himself into the freezing wind, crashing onto the unforgiving

concrete below.

Maybe he wanted the pain to end.

Or maybe he wanted to leave me with one final scar that I’d never forget.

But death refused to take him.

Instead, he survived.

The fall left him with multiple crushed bones throughout his body, on top of the severe burns and

overwhelming infections he was already fighting. He would spend the rest of his life confined to a

hospital bed, dependent on feeding tubes and ventilators, completely paralyzed. He couldn’t even

turn over without relying on a caregiver.

Like vultures circling a dying animal, his relatives swooped in and stripped what little remained of the Thorne family’s fortune until nothing was left.

As for Vivian…

The loan sharks she’d borrowed from had enough connections inside the prison system to make sure she received the “best” treatment possible behind bars.

Rumor had it she woke up screaming almost every night. After several failed attempts to hurt herself, she eventually lost her mind completely. Every day she sat staring at the peeling walls of

her cell, crying for Julian to come save her.

Ethan mentioned all of it one evening over dinner while carefully picking the bones from the fish on

my plate.

I looked out the window at the trees swaying in the breeze.

Inside me, there was nothing.

No anger.

No satisfaction.

No grief.

Just a dry, empty stillness.

It was finally over.

Married life wasn’t dramatic.

It was quiet.

Ordinary.

Beautiful in all the little ways that mattered.

Ethan loved me with a tenderness that had become part of who he was.

I watched him cancel billion-dollar international video conferences without a second thought just

so he could make it home before sunset, tie on an apron, and share a warm pot roast dinner with me

on a cold winter evening.

The nightmares never disappeared completely.

Sometimes I still dreamed about the freezing operating room.

Sometimes I found myself trapped again inside that filthy, narrow alley.

But every time I jolted awake drenched in sweat, I was no longer alone in an empty room.

Ethan was always there.

The instant I opened my eyes, he pulled me out of the darkness and held me tightly against the

warmth of his chest.

He kissed my damp forehead again and again until my breathing finally steadied.

“Chloe, don’t be afraid,” he whispered softly. “I’m here. I’ll always be here.”

One evening in late autumn, the setting sun bathed our balcony in warm golden light.

Resting against him, I quietly asked the question that had haunted me for so long.

“Does it bother you… that I got pregnant by another man? That I ended that pregnancy? Does it bother you that my body has been through so much… that it’s been broken and stitched back together?”

His arms tightened around me so suddenly it almost took my breath away.

He buried his face against my neck, and when he finally spoke, his voice trembled with emotion.

“Chloe… the thing I’m most grateful for is that five years later, in another timeline, Julian became so desperate that he asked me to save you.”

The following summer, beneath brilliant blue skies and endless sunshine, our daughter came into

the world.

Ethan named her Aurora Caldwell.

Aurora.

The first light before sunrise.

The promise that no matter how long the night lasted, dawn would always come.

As I looked down at the tiny little girl sleeping peacefully in her cradle before breaking into the sweetest laugh, my eyes filled with tears.

I knew then…

Our Aurora would never have to stumble through darkness the way I had.

Her life would be filled with love, hope, and sunlit paths lined with blooming flowers.

She would always walk toward the light.
