After My Brother’s Girlfriend Tried to Extort 500,000 from Me, I Revealed I Was the Mafia Donna Chapter 09

Luca sank to the floor.

“Isa, please. Don’t throw me out. I’ve got nothing left.”

I looked at him, and the irony of it was almost laughable.

A few hours earlier, when Vanessa had me locked in that storage room, where had he been?

Right here in this house, throwing a party.

Listening to her cry about how badly I’d treated her.

Then promising to make me kneel and apologise.

And now?

Only after I took back everything I’d given him did he suddenly start apologising.

“You don’t regret hurting me,” I said. “You regret losing all of this.”

Luca shook his head desperately.

“No, Isa, I really…”

“If I hadn’t revealed who I was tonight,” I cut him off.

“If I weren’t the Donna of the Moretti Family, if I really were the powerless woman you all thought had to depend on you, would you have said a single word in my defence?”

Luca froze.

His silence was answer enough.

No.

He would have sided with Vanessa.

Because in his world, status decided who deserved respect.

And he had never truly respected me.

I looked at him.

“Luca, the person you really owe an apology to is the woman I was all those years ago, the one who fought to give you this name, this place and a chance to belong to the Family. Back then, I truly saw you as family.”

“But today, you made one thing very clear. Deep down, you still think a man should be the one holding power in this Family.”

Tears ran down Luca’s face.

“Isa…”

“From today, you’re no longer family to me. What you do with your life now is your problem.”

With that, I turned and walked away.

The guards closed the door behind me, cutting off the sound of Luca crying.

Once I was in the car, I leaned back against the seat and closed my eyes.

My body still hurt.

But the sense of responsibility I’d carried for more than a decade was finally gone.

Dawn was beginning to break.

The legal process moved quickly after that.

The evidence against Vanessa was solid.

The restaurant’s security footage.

The hospital records.

The payment record from the card transaction.

And the statements from the two security guards.

There was too much evidence for her to deny what had happened.

In the end, she was convicted and sentenced.

I heard that even during the hearing, she kept shouting Luca’s name, insisting he would get her out.

But by then, Luca had already lost every bit of support he once had from the Moretti Family.

After leaving the Gold Coast house, he soon discovered that without Moretti backing, none of those old connections had ever really been his.

Bars stopped reserving private rooms for him.

Clubs stopped letting him in through their private entrances.

The people who used to follow him everywhere and treat him as one of their own stopped taking his calls.

He went to see Father.

Father refused to see him.

He only sent word through an adviser.

“Your sister gave you more than I ever could.”

Luca tried to return to the Family businesses.

Security stopped him before he could even enter the lobby.

He stood at the entrance shouting abuse, insisting that he was a Moretti.

But without authorisation from the Donna and the Family Council, that surname was no longer enough to get him through the doors.

Somehow, he later got hold of Sofia’s number.

He called her dozens of times a day, begging her to arrange a meeting with me.

Sofia asked me, “Do you want to see him?”

I thought for a few seconds.

“Fine. Tell him to go to Mount Carmel Cemetery and stay at my mother’s grave for three full days. No leaving halfway through. If he does that, then we’ll talk.”
