After I Lost My Memory, My Star Athlete Boyfriend Said We Broke Up Chapter 14

Camille was silent for a beat. “I might have said that. But I don’t recall.”

Killian’s breath hitched sharply. “You claim you don’t remember, but you’ve asked other people, haven’t you?” His voice stretched taut, like a fraying wire. “You’ve asked your assistant, asked everyone else. You know you loved me once, yet you’re just—”

“Just what?”

Killian ground his back teeth, the line of his jaw rigid. “You know about our history, and you’re pretending otherwise.”

Camille held the umbrella steady, rain falling from its rim to burst into tiny splashes on the

pavement.

She studied Killian’s face, close enough to touch. Rain blurred his features slightly, yet his eyes

burned startlingly bright.

“I’m not pretending.” Her voice was quiet, softened by the sound of rain, yet every word rang clear. “Killian, when you tell me about the past, it sounds like a story about strangers.”

“You describe how good things were,” Killian rasped, “how clingy I was, how deeply you loved me. To you, it’s no different from watching a television drama.’

“But it was real,” Killian added.

“It was real,” Camille nodded. “But I don’t remember it. What do you expect me to do? Act out those old feelings for someone I can’t recall?”

Killian stared at her, rain dripping off his jaw. “You promised once. You said you’d always love me.”

“It isn’t fair to hold me to promises I can no longer remember,” Camille said, tightening her grip on the umbrella shaft. “Whether you’re with Maren or anyone else, it doesn’t affect me. I collect the pay I’m owed and complete the work assigned to me. That’s all.”

“It’s not like that with Maren-” Killian began abruptly, then cut himself off.

“Not like what?” Camille met his gaze. “You’ve kissed her in public, worn matching rings. What more is there to say?”

The rain intensified, drumming harder against the umbrella.

Killian stood soaked to the bone, his gaze locked on Camille’s face.

He stared at her for a long moment, mouth opening and closing as if words failed him, before he finally voiced the question weighing on him. “What if I told you… I regret everything?”

Camille looked into his gray-green eyes and paused. “Whether you regret it or not is your own

business. Go home. Don’t stand out in the rain. You have training tomorrow.”

Camille pulled open the car door and climbed inside.

The engine rumbled to life in the dark. Twin beams of headlights swept over Killian’s drenched

figure.

She reversed, turned the car around, and exited the parking lot.

In the rearview mirror, Killian remained motionless where he stood. Rainwater streamed off his body, pooling on the asphalt beneath his feet.

Live comments scrolled across her phone screen.

[Watching him stand out in the rain breaks my heart. He deserves this, but it’s still painful to see.]

[Think about everything he put Camille through first. Making her haul crates of water alone, kissing Maren for the whole world to see, labeling her a control freak to reporters… A little rain is

nothing.]

[He earned every bit of this.]

Camille tore her gaze away from the mirror.

The car rounded a bend, windshield wipers swinging rhythmically back and forth.

Her expression stayed calm, yet a faint warmth prickled behind her eyes.

She wasn’t crying. The fleeting heat surged briefly, then she forced it back down.

“Why waste tears on someone who doesn’t deserve them?” she whispered into the empty cabin,

half explaining to someone unseen, half reminding herself.

The vehicle merged onto the main road, blending into the night traffic, taillights fading into the

distance.

Sometime deep in the night, persistent knocking woke Camille.
