After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 25

After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 25

I picked up. Didn’t bother finding a quiet corner.

His voice poured through. Smug. Gleeful.

“Vanessa. How’s it feel? All those deals. Dead.”

“Must be rough. Watching every contract slip away.”

“Let me guess. Your Dutch boss is losing his mind. About to fire you. Blacklist you from the whole industry. No way out.”

He sounded giddy. Like he could picture me. Frazzled. Desperate. Cornered.

I stayed silent. Just listening.

Like watching a clown perform alone on stage.

My silence fed his ego.

Before I could respond, another voice cut in. Sadie. Sickly sweet.

“Vanessa. Dylan was just angry. Don’t take it personally.”

“We were colleagues once. Why does it have to be like this?”

“Come back. Apologize to Dylan. Wipe the slate clean. Don’t throw your career away over a rash decision.”

Good cop. Bad cop. Perfectly rehearsed.

A soft laugh escaped me.

“My career?”

“Dylan. If you’ve got time to worry about my career, maybe worry about your books first. Hire a decent accountant.”

“Because that cash flow of yours? I’m not sure it holds up another week.”

The laughter on his end died.

Then the snarl replaced it.

“Vanessa. You’re cornered. And you’re cursing me?”

“You really want to burn every bridge in this industry.”

“Last chance.”

“Right now. Immediately. All your client files. Transfer them to Sadie.”

“Then come back. Apologize. To me. To Sadie.”

“Do it well. I’ll consider reinstating you. COO. Same as before. Or keep testing me. See yourself erased.”

I almost laughed at the absurdity.

Erased from the industry?

We’d see who got erased.
