“I know you’re angry. About Sadie. The boundaries I didn’t keep. I’ll change. I swear.”

“But I can’t lose you. Please. Stay. Don’t go to Europe. Come back to me.”

“We start over. This time, I’ll love you right.”

I said nothing.

He took a breath. Like he was about to dive off a cliff.

“If you stay. Right now. I’ll divorce Sadie today. Then we get married. Immediately. Okay?”

“No.”

He frowned.

“Vanessa. I’m compromising here. What else do you want? You want me on my knees? Begging?”

I shook my head. Before he could look relieved, I spoke.

“Kneeling won’t fix it. I’m leaving. You and Sadie have my blessing.”

My voice stayed flat. Final.

Something in Julian’s expression shifted. Hardened.

“You think leaving the country means I can’t touch you anymore?”

“Our company’s reputation? I can destroy your background check. Blacklist you in this industry. Make you unhireable.”

I smiled.

“Is that so?”

“Try it. Make me unhireable. See what happens.”

I didn’t wait for a response. I grabbed my carry-on. Walked down the jet bridge.
