After I Left, His Empire Collapsed Chapter 08

“Quit? When did I approve you quitting?”

Sadie’s lips curled. She jumped in, voice dripping with fake concern.

“Vanessa, I get that you’re upset, but joking about quitting? Faking an email screenshot to provoke Julian?”

“He’s already running a company by himself. It’s exhausting. What if he gets sick because of this?”

Julian looked at me like I was a child. Disappointed. Cold.

“Vanessa. You’re a grown woman. Sadie is younger than you, and she’s more mature.”

“Faking an email just to spite me? I’m not falling for these manipulation tactics.”

“My patience has limits. You’ve pushed far enough.”

He gave me his final ultimatum.

“Last chance. Go back to the office right now, before I change my mind. Or this year’s bonus and profit share? Gone.”

The warning in his eyes was real.

I felt nothing but irony.

I’d shown him the proof. Right there on my phone. He chose Sadie’s story over his own eyes.

When had that started? When Sadie first appeared, he began assuming the worst of me. Every contract I submitted? Examined with a magnifying glass. Multiple lawyers. Every clause dissected. Like I was plotting something.

But Sadie? He trusted her without question.

She handed him documents. He signed. Didn’t even glance at them. Gave her his phone passcode. Company secrets. Everything.

I warned him. Told him to be careful.

He sneered.

“Vanessa. Not everyone schemes like you. Sadie is innocent. She’s good. She would never betray me.”

Love and not-love. There it was. The difference.
