After I Laid Five Golden Dragon Eggs, the Dragon King Regretted Chapter 03

By the time I finished packing, I had made up my mind.

Whether Valerius wanted them or not, he was the father, and he had a right to know about the eggs.

If he didn’t want them, I would hatch them myself.

After all, my mother had raised me alone.

Just as I was about to head out, my door was flung open.

Seraphina stood there, an undisguised look of triumph on her face.

“Ember, I’ve come to tell you some good news.”

“Valerius has agreed to marry me. The ceremony is set for the eighth of next month.”

She finished, waiting for me to burst into tears.

I simply nodded. “Oh.”

Seraphina was clearly unsatisfied with this reaction and added, “Valerius said his marriage to you was merely a moment of confusion. The position of Queen has always belonged to me in his heart.”

“Do you understand? He is marrying me!”

“What does it matter if you lingered in Aethelgard for a hundred years? He only felt a sense of debt toward you; there was no love!”

[The lead just agreed, and she’s already marking her territory. How cute.]

[But I still think the lead is being forced. Why does he really need the Wild-kin secret?]

[It doesn’t matter if it’s forced; ‘marriage first, love later’ is a great trope.]

[You guys just want romance. I’m just here to see the side character get crushed.]

Seraphina was clearly thinking the same thing, watching me as if waiting to savor my misery.

I, however, was merely curious. “And then?”

Seraphina blinked. “What?”

“What does your marriage have to do with me? Our marriage has already been annulled.”

Seraphina stood there, stunned, her mouth hanging open. She had prepared a mountain of insults, but since I wasn’t playing along, she had nowhere to direct her anger. Her face turned red with frustration.

I didn’t have time for her expressions.

I was busy thinking about a very important question:

How exactly does one hatch a drakeling egg?

If Seraphina really marries Valerius, she certainly won’t want my five eggs.

Even if she took them, a Wild-kin wouldn’t know how to hatch them properly.

I’d better take them back with me.

But is hatching a drakeling egg like hatching a chicken egg?

My mother never taught me.

I had seen hens in Briar Hollow hatch eggs—they sat on them and turned them over.

But drakeling eggs are so large; I couldn’t possibly sit on five of them.

Lost in thought, I was jolted back by Seraphina’s voice rising an octave: “Ember! You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?!”

I looked at her, bewildered. “Doing what on purpose?”

“You lowly ‘Ungifted’! Do you think acting grand for a few days as Queen makes you better than me? Stop pretending!”

Fuming, she lunged at me with a palm strike.

But before her hand could touch me, the Heart-Scale around my neck suddenly flared with a blinding gold light. The force sent her flying backward, slamming into the doorframe.

Seraphina turned pale. “A Heart-Scale? Valerius actually gave you his Heart-Scale?!”

She scrambled up, her shock turning into pure jealousy as she reached out to snatch it. “What right does a creature like you have to wear his scale!”

I dodged back, unsure of what to do, when a hand reached out from behind me and firmly caught Seraphina’s wrist.
