After I Finally Became His Perfect Donna Chapter 06

After I Finally Became His Perfect Donna Chapter 06

On the other side of the city, inside the hospital, the doctor snipped the last suture and gave his instructions.

“Don, Miss Croft’s wound isn’t deep. It justbled a lot because of the location. It’s been dressed. Keep it dry for

the next couple of days and let her rest. She’ll be fine.”

Dorian saw the doctor out, his face still tight with lingering anger. “Lyra is getting bolder by the day. Pulling a

knife right in front of me.”

Mireille bit her lip, fragile and trembling, tears still clinging to her lashes.

“Dorian, don’t blame Lyra. She probably just hates me too much. Even five years at the Academy couldn’t

make her let go.”

“I really never imagined… pushing me once wasn’t enough, and now she has to…”

She trailed off, covering her face as quiet sobs escaped.

Mike clenched his small fists at her side and shouted, “That bad lady hurt me last time and now she hurt Mommy! I wish she’d stay locked up in that Academy forever!”

He grew more agitated, his little face flushing red. “And she doesn’t even listen! Daddy, didn’t you just tell her to go die? If she’s really so obedient, why doesn’t she just go ahead and die!”

“Mike, enough!”

Dorian’s brow snapped together, a nerve visibly jumping at his temple.

He couldn’t stand hearing the word “die.” Especially not in the same sentence as Lyra.

“What have I always taught you? She’s still your mother in name.”

Mike stared at him in stunned silence, then burst into indignant tears. “She’s NOT my mommy! I only have

one mommy!”

“And Daddy, you obviously hate her too, so why are you yelling at me because of her! Bad Daddy!”

He scrubbed at his eyes and stormed out of the room.

Dorian pinched the bridge of his nose. His head was splitting.

He couldn’t figure out why Lyra refused to learn. Why she couldn’t just behave.

Everything he’d done was for her own good.

If she’d actually succeeded in preventing Mike from being born, that would have been worse for her in the

end. After all, back then—

He pulled himself out of the thought and said coldly, “Leave her alone. If five years at the Academy didn’t fix

her, she can stay a few more.”

A flicker of satisfaction passed through Mireille’s eyes.

She reached for Dorian’s hand, her voice turning coy and hopeful. “Dorian, there’s something… I want to talk

to you about.”

“What is it?” Dorian asked, forcing patience into his tone.

“All these years, I’ve been right here by your side, raising Mike.” Mireille lowered her head, the picture of pitiful vulnerability. “Sometimes I wonder… what are we, exactly?”

Her voice trembled. “I know you feel like it would be unfair to Lyra, but… we could give her enough money to live comfortably overseas for the rest of her life.”

“Besides, Mike is still registered under my name. Kids at school are already making fun of him, calling him illegitimate. Dorian, even if it’s just for Mike’s future why don’t we make it official?”

Looking into Mireille’s eyes, so full of longing, Dorian felt a momentary lapse in focus.

It was the most rational choice. It was the fairest thing he could do for Mireille.

But he quietly withdrew his hand, his tone going rigid.

“Mireille, when we started this, I told you. The position of Donna belongs to Lyra. Only Lyra.”

She would be his only wife. That would never change.

The smile froze on Mireille’s face. “But Mike…”

“If you’re worried about Mike being teased, we can transfer his birth certificate to Lyra’s name in a few days.

“That way, he’ll be the legitimate heir of the Vane family.”

Seeing the color drain from Mireille’s face, Dorian seemed to realize his tone had been too harsh. He

softened slightly.

“Lyra will stay at the Academy for a while longer. I promise, when she comes out this time, she won’t hurt either of you again. All right?”

Mireille managed a thin smile. “All right.”

But beneath the blanket, her nails were digging crescents into her palms.
