Kaelen glanced at my face—paper-white now—and something flickered.

“But Evelyn—”

He hadn’t even finished the sentence when Isabella started coughing harder.

His face changed. He waved at the guards to bring me forward.

“Evelyn. Hold still. Nothing can happen to her pup.”

Through the bond, I thought I heard my son’s faint cry again.

I tore my hand out of Kaelen’s grip and pitched forward, dry-heaving.

The smell of that medicine—I couldn’t keep it down.

In the motion, my arm hit the bowl.

It went off the table. Smashed on the floor.

The whole room went quiet.

I was still bent over, retching, when Kaelen’s voice came at me.

“Evelyn! You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

Isabella lifted her head off his chest. Sobbed until she couldn’t breathe.

“Alpha—the healer said there was only one bowl. I guess I wasn’t meant to stay by you in this life.”

“If I can’t stay, then maybe this pup shouldn’t stay either. It hurts too much to live like this every day.”

And then she rushed toward the wall as if she had lost all sense.

Kaelen caught her in time. Pulled her back.

“Isabella. Don’t be stupid. Nothing’s going to happen to you.”

His face went dark when he turned around.

“Who said there’s only one bowl? There are four more children in Moonstone Cemetery, aren’t there?”

“Go. Bring them all back.”

The blood in my body froze.

I lost the last shred of restraint I had.

“Kaelen—are you out of your mind? Those are your children. Your own children. How can you—”

I didn’t get to finish. The blood I’d been swallowing all night came up.

The system’s voice cut off, and my mother saw the blood on my mouth. There was no concern in her face. Just anger.

“Evelyn! Bad enough that you have to fight Isabella for everything—now she coughs blood, and you put on a show too?”

“You really can’t stand seeing the Alpha care for her, can you?”

“How did I raise a daughter this cruel? This shameless?”

I stared into her red eyes.

I couldn’t believe this was the same woman who used to hold me when I was small. The one who used to call me her best girl in the world.

Now she looked at me like I was an enemy.

I pointed at the broken bowl. My chest hurt too much to speak.

“Mother. He isn’t just my child. He’s your blood. He suffered so much. Do you feel nothing?”

She froze. Just for a second.

I watched the servants moving. Watched them getting ready to do the same thing to the children I had already lost.

I shook all over.

“System. I’m done waiting.”

“If this body gives out, can I leave this world now?”

I said it quietly.

But Kaelen heard enough to frown.

“Evelyn. Can you stop making a scene?”

“I already promised. Once Isabella finishes her mission, nobody has to fight. You’re still the only Luna I’ll recognize.”

“You really need to threaten me with your own life? You really need to make it this ugly?”

He stared at me. Hard.

He didn’t notice the jealousy that flashed through Isabella’s eyes when she heard the word Luna.

I didn’t care anymore.

I was done with this world.

When the pack healer came back with a new bowl, I let them draw my blood without resisting. Watched it drip in.

Kaelen and my parents both let out a breath.

Kaelen most of all.

He looked into my dead eyes, and his voice softened without him meaning to.

“All right, Evelyn. I know this has been hard on you. After today, I’ll make it up to you. Twice over.”

He hadn’t even finished talking when I pushed past everyone and rushed toward the stone pillar before anyone could stop me.
