After I Became The Perfect Husband, She Broke Down Chapter 08

I had barely taken a few steps when a flash of cold light gleamed in the bushes beside me.

The blade sliced across my arm.

When I saw who it was, my brows snapped together.

“Elliot.”

Elliot let out a cold laugh, clamped a hand around my throat, and slammed me against the wall. The tip of the knife pressed against my heart.

“Didn’t see this coming, did you, Ethan?”

“You idiot. You still ended up in my hands.”

His eyes were vicious.

My body still hadn’t recovered, and faced with him closing in, there was little I could do.

The blade pressed harder against my heart, sharp and painful.

I couldn’t breathe through my throat.

I suddenly thought–maybe dying like this wouldn’t be so bad.

If this body died, Vivian could finally let go of her obsession.

Then the mission would be complete.

I slowly closed my eyes.

Just as the blade was about to break skin, Elliot’s hand suddenly trembled.

The knife clattered to the ground.

I opened my eyes.

Nina had sunk her teeth into Elliot’s arm and shoved him away.

She spread her arms in front of me.

“You bad man!”

“Don’t you dare hurt my

dad!”

Nina’s small voice was full of determination.

Right after that, Vivian arrived and had the bodyguards pin him down in seconds.

Vivian looked up and held out the ice cream to me with her other hand.

“The police will be here soon.”

“He won’t get away this time. Eat it before it melts.”

The police arrived quickly and took Elliot away.

Because he’d fled to avoid punishment, another charge was added to his original sentence.

This time, he couldn’t escape.

Watching the police car leave, Vivian suddenly turned back and asked me, pained,

“Where were you going just now?”

I looked at her in silence.

“Don’t you already know?”

“After the damage you’ve done me over the past five years, what makes you think I’d forgive you over a few words?”

“Vivian, if you really love me, let me go.”

“After we divorce, where will you go?”

“Anywhere. Vivian, I just don’t want to stay by your side anymore.”

Vivian went silent too.

She stared at me for a long time, then let out a sigh full of guilt and self–blame.

“I understand. These past five years were my fault.”

“You’re right. I wronged you. I agree to the divorce. I’ll let you go.”

She had her assistant print out the divorce papers and send them over.

She signed her name first, then handed them to me.

Just as I was about to sign, Nina grabbed my pen and held on tight, unwilling.

“Dad, are you really leaving?”

I looked at Nina. She looked so much like Vivian.

I suddenly remembered the first time Nina babbled the word “Dad.”

It had warmed my heart instantly.

But when did it start to change?

Probably when she started thinking I was naggy and not as good as Elliot.

People are always like that–only learning to treasure something when they’re about to lose it.

I ignored Nina’s pitiful look and spoke coldly,

“Let go.”

Nina froze, then slowly released my pen.

This time, there was no softness in me.

I signed without hesitation, turned, and walked away from them step by step.

Only when I could no longer feel those two burning gazes behind me did I slowly stop.

The setting sun fell over me.

The system’s voice sounded in my ear,

“Mission complete. Bonus is being issued.”

“Host, welcome home.”
