After His Amnesia, I Severed Our Mate Bond Chapter 03

March 1, 2023. I placed the breakfast I’d prepared on the dining table, the aroma of freshly baked bread blending seamlessly with the crisp morning breeze. Evander, the Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack, had just awakened, his imposing figure dominating the doorway as he stepped into the room. His presence, as always, was commanding, yet today it bore a chill, a distance that hadn’t been there before

I flashed him a smile, but he barely glanced my way as he settled into his seat at the head of the table. I let it pass; ever since Zayla, a Delta from the Crimson Fang Pack, began murmuring about severing her mate bond, Evander had been pulling away from me, his Luna, treating me like a mere ghost in his pack.

I wasn’t buying his amnesia act for a second. Over the last few days, I’d been testing him, gently probing his memory, and I was convinced it was all a facade. His icy demeanor, his so–called forgetfulness–it was a calculated move to push me into ending things The mate bond that once felt unbreakable now seemed like a fragile thread, and he was tugging at it, waiting for it to unravel.

His question from yesterday still echoed in my mind, taunting me. ‘Was it love that brought us together?‘ he’d asked, his tone dripping

with sarcasm. As if the Moon Goddess’s decree could just be brushed aside.

We ate in silence, the only sound being the clinking of silverware against plates. As I peeled an apple, the knife gliding smoothly in my hand, Evander’s phone buzzed on the table. He glanced at the screen, and his expression shifted instantly, a genuine smile spreading across his face–something I hadn’t seen directed at me in weeks.

‘Zayla, hey,‘ he said, his voice softening. ‘I’m up. My head’s still a bit foggy, but nothing serious. Make sure to bundle up. Yeah, I’m at the den; swing by whenever.‘

I froze mid–peel, my grip tightening around the knife. Should I really stand back and let them flaunt their rekindled connection right in front of me? As Luna, I had my pride, and the thought of enduring their blatant display again made my stomach twist.

After breakfast, I cleared the table and told Evander I was heading out. ‘Alright,‘ he said, already distracted. ‘Zayla’s stopping by later to take care of me, so no need to worry.‘

I nodded, forcing a smile. ‘That’s good. I’m not worried then. I’ll be back tonight; we need to talk after dinner.‘

His eyes met mine, searching for something–maybe guilt, maybe hesitation. But he wouldn’t find it. My gaze was steady, my resolve

unshaken.

‘Okay,‘ he replied, his tone neutral, but I could feel the tension simmering beneath the surface, the weight of what was to come looming like an impending storm.‘
