Red and blue lights bathed Gabriel’s paper-white face.

Cops busted in.

They pinned a collapsed Sophie to the floor.

Dragged away, she still shrieked curses.

“Gabriel, you heartless bastard!”

She glared at me.

“How does a hunk of metal get to outlive me!”

Cops hauled her out.

The door shut.

Dead silence choked the villa.

Gabriel crawled to me.

His trembling hands reached for my cold face.

Leo kicked his hands away.

Leo looked at him like a corpse.

He spoke coldly.

“I told you, her functions are permanently fried.”

“Surviving your torture these past days.”

“She overclocked her core processor way past safe limits.”

Leo squatted, staring into Gabriel’s eyes.

“Even the perfect clone meant for the transfer.”

“Can’t sync now that her consciousness vessel is crashed.”

“Gabriel, you crushed her last hope of survival with your own hands.”

Gabriel lost his spine.
