A Love Between Shadows Chapter 11

Staff in black suits slowly approached as they carried a white coffin.

Jeremy stood there in a daze, watching as they placed the coffin in front of him. It was only then that he regained his senses and reprimanded them.

“Today is a big day for me and Vera. What do you all mean by that? Get out of here quickly. Don’t stay here and make trouble!”

The staff member at the front walked up to Jeremy and bowed deeply as if he hadn’t heard anything.

“Mr. Fawcett, please accept my condolences.”

When Jeremy heard it, his mind went blank. His anger grew stronger, and he grabbed the staff member’s collar with his eyes opened wide.

“What nonsense are you talking about? Are you courting death?”

He forcefully pushed the man away and then walked toward the coffin.

He paused as he approached the coffin. Then, he took a deep breath and sneered, “I don’t know who is playing the trick and making a scene to embarrass me on my big day! But once I find out, I won’t let the person behind the matter stay in the city anymore!”

As soon as he finished speaking, everyone present fell silent. They all craned their necks to see the farce.

When Jeremy saw the person lying in the coffin, he incredulously took a few steps back and then fell to his knees on the ground.

“Vera?”

The staff slowly approached him, taking out a thick stack of documents.

“Ms. Perry suffered from severe depression and committed suicide by jumping into the sea last night. Although witnesses promptly called the police, it was too late to save her. Here are the witness statements and Ms. Perry’s medical records. If there are no other questions, please sign the death confirmation form.”

Jeremy watched as the man in front of him opened and closed his mouth, but he couldn’t hear anything.

He stared fixedly at the person lying in the coffin, feeling a momentary daze.

He didn’t believe that she was Vera. How could she be Vera? She was most afraid of water. How could she choose such a way to leave the world? Besides, she had loved to look good ever since she was a child. Even a small scratch on her body would make her feel sad for a long time as she was afraid to have any scars.

However, the person in the coffin had her face swollen and disfigured due to being soaked in seawater. Her body was scratched all over by small stones, and even her well-kept hands were scarred.

So how could she be Vera?

His tears blurred his vision as he struggled to his feet. He repeatedly wiped the tears from his eyes, trying to get a clear look at the person inside the coffin and to find evidence that she was not Vera.

Yet no matter how hard he tried, the person lying inside was indeed his companion of five years, Vera.

He trembled as he clasped Vera’s hand, but the icy coldness of her fingertips told him that she was dead.
