Vera had been in the bedroom for ten minutes, and Jeremy let Jason urge her.

Vera took a deep breath and repeatedly made emotional adjustments. She didn’t walk out of the room till she managed to keep her true feelings concealed.

Jeremy stood by the car, considerately pulled its door open, and placed one hand beneath the door frame to prevent Vera from hitting her head.

Vera forced a smile and then got into the car.

One hour later, the car stopped before the Perry’s house. Jeremy excitedly got out of the car while Vera stood rooted to the entrance of Perry’s house.

Vera didn’t know the alarm code of her home, and she needed a lot of courage to ring the doorbell.

The reason was that her biological parents did not welcome her.

Her mother often said, “Why did you take all the nutrition away from your little sister? She is weak because you are selfish and evil.”

All the malice stemmed from the fact that she had been born two minutes earlier than Elsa. Nobody had ever asked her if she wanna come into this world.

She had thought that she could get rid of her family after a difficult childhood. Her plan had failed because of her love for Jeremy.

The Fawcett family and the Perry family were close friends, and nearly all their businesses were interwoven.

Vera didn’t want to attend her father’s birthday banquet. She had changed her mind because this banquet would be her last meeting with her family.

She mustered up the courage to press the doorbell. After quite a while, a maid answered the door.

Upon her entry, Vera saw her family happily taking photos. Elsa was flanked by her parents like a spoiled child, and the atmosphere was warm and happy.

When Andrew Perry saw Vera, his smile froze in place.

He snapped, “Why did you come? You know that today is my birthday, so you deliberately came to anger me, didn’t you?”

His wife, Clara Wilson, looked at the doorway because of his anger. Her expression quickly became stern, and her voice became sharp. “You don’t come home, so why did you show up now? Both you and Elsa are my children, but why do you two differ so much? Elsa is such a sweet girl.”

The sarcasm was so familiar to Vera because she had lived with it for more than twenty years. She didn’t feel hurt as she had. Her expression remained calm as if she hadn’t heard her mother.

Right then, Jeremy walked into the house with many gifts.

The tension in the house made him say, “Andrew, Vera, and I came to celebrate your birthday. She misses you, so she came. By the way, she chose these gifts for you and Clara. Here you are.”

Thanks to Jeremy, the Perry couple stopped making things difficult for Vera. They let their butler take the gifts and then invited the Fawcett couple to sit down.

Andrew didn’t like noise, so his birthday banquet was a family gathering without any outsiders.

Vera chose the seat far away from her parents while Jeremy sat next to Elsa. Realizing his problem, Jeremy invited Vera over.

After one glance at Jeremy and Elsa, Vera moved as her husband wanted.

Her glance was emotionless, but it made Jeremy panic.

Jeremy slightly leaned over to Vera and explained, “It is convenient to talk with your parents from this spot.”

What a poor excuse! However, Vera didn’t get Jeremy’s lie exposed.

“Thank you for taking me home yesterday, Jeremy. Without you, I might have gone to the hospital.”

Speaking, Elsa smiled at Vera and waited for the latter to break down and make a scene. Vera remained calm as if she hadn’t heard Elsa.

Elsa was disappointed by Vera’s reactions. She soon came up with a new trick.

She deliberately covered her mouth to feign astonishment and then said, “Oh, sorry, Jeremy. A slip of the tongue. I shouldn’t have brought up your escort, should I? Vera seems unhappy with it.”

Instantly, Vera became the focus of attention.

Before Vera could speak, Clara snapped, “Just ignore her. How dare she be mad at you? You wouldn’t be so weak if she didn’t take the nutrition away from you. She should try her best to make it up to you. Even if you want Jeremy to be your boyfriend, she should agree, let alone let him take you home.”

Vera coldly looked at the people before her, chuckled, and slowly rose to her feet. “He will be yours if you want him, Elsa.”
