A Love Between Shadows Chapter 03

The car slowly stopped before a wedding dress shop. Vera got out of the car and saw Jeremy walking over with an anxious expression.

Before she greeted him, he blushed past her and instructed, “Vera, something is up. Can you try on the wedding dresses on your own? Tell my assistant what you want, and the driver will take you home later.”

It sounded like he was asking for her opinion, but the arrangement was already settled.

Jeremy left without waiting for Vera’s answer.

Vera silently watched Jeremy leave. She then took out her phone and checked the new message from Elsa.

“Jeremy is said to be helping you choose your wedding dress. My heart aches. Will he leave you for me?”

Vera coldly stared at the defiant message. Recalling the anxiety on Jeremy’s face, she couldn’t help but turn red in the eyes. Her heart ached too.

“Mrs. Fawcett, please come inside. We have prepared several wedding dresses for you according to Mr. Fawcett’s instructions. Please try them on.”

The clerk of the wedding dress shop helped Vera snap back to reality. Vera shifted her gaze to the clerk and shook her head.

“No, I don’t like those wedding dresses.”

Vera would disappear in one month, and the system would arrange a corpse to replace her at the wedding.

The flashy wedding dresses were unnecessary in this show.

Vera walked out of the shop and told the driver to take her home.

Later, she got out of the car, went straight to her bedroom, and packed all her belongings into a box. Then, she asked a maid to throw the box away. In this way, she wiped off all her traces in this house.

Holding the heavy box, the maid couldn’t help but ask, “Mrs. Fawcett, are you sure you don’t want any of these things anymore?”

Vera lifted her eyelids and replied, “Yes, I don’t need them anymore. There’s no need to keep the old things.”

Looking at the love letters and thick photo albums in the box, the maid became hesitant. In the end, she said nothing and quietly closed the door behind her.

After all the preparations were made, Vera breathed a sigh of relief. She lay on the sofa and took out a bottle of red wine from a hidden cabinet.

After the bottle was opened, she drank up all the wine in one gulp.

Thanks to the effect of alcohol, she finally felt free and happy.

For years, she had drunk that terrible tonic and strictly followed the dietary requirements as Jeremy wanted. Whenever she complained, Jeremy held her hands with red eyes and said, “Vera, I studied medicine for your sake. I want you to be healthy. I want you to grow old with me, healthily.”

Vera was unhappy but was softened by Jeremy’s tears. She had drunk the pungent tonic for five years.

Now that the lie had been exposed, she would eat and drink whatever she wanted.

When Vera was tipsy, her phone buzzed. The new message was a photo from Elsa.

In the photo, Elsa pouted for a selfie with her hands wrapped around Jeremy’s neck and her head resting on Jeremy’s shoulder.

Jeremy’s handsome and soft face was close to Elsa’s ear.

Elsa then sent another message over. “I’m sorry! Out of worry, Jeremy insisted on carrying me home. It seems you lost again, my dear sister.”
