After I Died, the Alpha Went Mad Holding My Body Chapter 02

After I Died, the Alpha Went Mad Holding My Body Chapter 02

My mother’s finger was in my face before I’d even finished the sentence.

“Evelyn! What do you mean you’re not going?”

“Don’t you forget. Isabella is the Silverclaw daughter we lost. She’s the one who deserves to be made whole. You sat in her seat for years. You owe her.”

“She’s pregnant. You don’t go—and something happens—you’re going to live with that?”

Since my parents had brought Isabella back—since she’d announced she had a system mission—I’d lost count of how many times they’d pushed me out of the way to make room for her.

Isabella said she didn’t feel safe at home. They struck my name from the Silverclaw heir list and made her the only heir.

Isabella said her system target was my mate. So even though I’d already completed the mating ceremony with Kaelen—even though I was the Luna of Blackwood—they sent her right into the estate. Moved her into the North Wing.

Even after she caused the loss of five of my pups, one after another, all they did was bend over backward to keep me from holding her accountable.

Looking at my mother’s face—that face full of blame—my eyes stung. I opened my mouth before I could think.

“What if she’s not the only one running out of time…”

My father cut me off, sharp.

“Enough! Evelyn, stop this. Every minute you waste, Isabella’s in more danger.”

Kaelen took my hand. His voice was solemn.

“Evelyn. I promise you. This is the last time.”

“Once Isabella finishes her mission, I’ll never make you do anything you don’t want again.”

And then he didn’t give me a choice. He took me to the North Wing himself.

The second the door opened, something dark lunged at me.

Isabella—out of her mind—pinned me down. Pulled at my hair. Clawed at my face. Hit me.

I’d just given birth. My wound split open again. My vision went black.

Kaelen acted like he couldn’t see any of it.

“Hold Evelyn still! Don’t let her thrash! Don’t hurt Isabella—don’t hurt the pup!”

Blood ran down my face from where her nails had opened me up.

My body and my heart had nothing left to feel with.

When she’d worn herself out, Isabella threw herself into Kaelen’s arms and started sobbing.

“Alpha—my soul-bond’s shaking. The lost pups are coming for me. I’m scared. I’m so scared.”

He held her. Heartbroken.

That was when a pack healer stepped forward, face grim.

“Alpha. This isn’t normal agitation. It looks like someone’s used a curse on her wolf.”

“There’s an old wolf-clan remedy I remember. It might calm her. But—”

He paused. His eyes landed on me.

“The cure has to include the thing she’s most afraid of in her dreams. Only then will it work.”

My head came up. I was about to call it insane.

Then I caught the hesitation in Kaelen’s eyes.

I couldn’t believe it.

“Kaelen. Our child was just lost. He hasn’t even reached Moonstone Cemetery.”

His face shifted.

He was about to ask if there was another way—when Isabella turned chalk-white and coughed up blood.

The hesitation vanished out of him like it had never been there.

“I’m sorry. The pup she’s carrying has to live.”

Then he turned back to me.

“Evelyn. The ones we’ve lost can’t come back. If our son can save Isabella’s pup—at least he served the pack. You’re the Luna. You should think about the pack first.”

A minute later, they brought my child into the room.

I went for him on instinct.

I didn’t make it. My mother’s hand cracked across my face and put me on the floor.

“Enough.”

Her eyes were red. Pain and fury, all mixed up.

“Can you not be reasonable for once in your life? Did you not see her coughing up blood? You won’t be satisfied until something happens to her?”

My father came in behind her, voice cold.

“Stop this. A pup we’ve already lost does not matter more than Isabella’s life.”

By then, the smell of blood was bleeding out of the inner room.

Through the soul-bond, I felt my child’s pain.

Something rose in the back of my throat, raw and sweet.

The pack healer came out with a bowl of dark medicine. Spoke again.

“Alpha—the curse is almost broken!”

“We need to add the Luna’s blood!”
