On the other end of the call, Julian froze.

He still had more to say, but the line had already gone dead.

When he tried calling back, he realized Vivienne had blocked him.

By the time he stumbled out of the Vance estate, his mind was a complete mess. Audrey

hurried after him in her heels and grabbed his arm.

“Baby, if she wants to leave, let her go. You still have me.”

Julian lowered his eyes.

Yeah.

He still had Audrey.

Vivienne was the one being unreasonable.

But another voice inside him immediately rejected the thought.

No.

The woman he had loved from beginning to end had always been Vivienne.

Audrey had only ever been useful.

His father needed the marriage alliance with the Vance family to stabilize the Everett Group’s

business empire. His mother needed it to secure his position as the rightful heir.

That was why, the night Audrey drunkenly stumbled into his hotel suite, he had simply gone

along with it.

It wasn’t entirely his fault.

Behind him were several illegitimate half-brothers watching him like vultures, all just as

vicious and ambitious as Melanie.

The thought made Julian’s expression darken.

He suddenly snatched Audrey’s phone from her hand and dialed Melanie’s number.

The call connected quickly.

“Well, this is unexpected,” Melanie drawled lazily. “What’s the occasion? Did the precious legitimate daughter finally remember her bastard sister exists?”

The sarcasm in her voice was unmistakable, but Julian ignored it completely.

“Did you take Vivienne?” he asked coldly. “I can switch the marriage arrangement to you

instead. I can even give you shares in the Vance family holdings. Just bring Vivienne back.”

Silence filled the line.

So long that Julian almost thought she was actually considering it.

Then Melanie laughed.

A cold, mocking laugh.

“You and Audrey really are perfect for each other,” she said. “Both of you make me sick.”

The call disconnected again.

Julian let out a humorless laugh, irritation flashing across his face.

But a moment later, he calmed down.

Handing the phone back to Audrey, he texted his men and ordered them to trace Vivienne’s

location immediately.

Not long after, the IP results came in.

Julian headed toward his car, ready to leave the Vance estate.

But Audrey suddenly grabbed his sleeve.

“Baby, don’t go!” Her eyes were red with panic. “I don’t want that baby anymore, okay? Stop

looking for her. I’m not scared of the pain anymore. Stay with me and I’ll give you a child that’s truly ours, okay?”

She rose onto her toes and tried to kiss him.

Logic told him he shouldn’t leave.

He definitely shouldn’t blow this situation up.

The Everett Group’s new project still depended heavily on the Vance family.

But reality was even crueler.

He couldn’t lose Vivienne.

And somehow, he found himself blaming her again.

If only she had been more obedient.

If only she had stayed quietly in the hospital and waited for him.

Once he secured the project, he would have told her everything.

But she had chosen this exact moment to force his hand.

Julian clenched his fist tightly.

In the end, he still pushed Audrey away.

Looking at the tears gathering in her eyes, he said quietly, “I’m sorry, Audrey. When I come

back, I’ll divorce you.”

He turned to leave, but Audrey suddenly wrapped both arms around his waist from behind.

“Julian!”

Her voice cracked hysterically.

“You can’t leave! You love me! What the hell is Vivienne compared to me?!”

“You used to do anything for me! You even agreed without hesitation to let her carry a baby for us! So why won’t you stay for me now?!”

Julian stood there for a very long time.

Finally, he reached down and gently removed her hands from around him.

When he spoke again, his voice was rough, as if he had finally made up his mind.

“I lied to you.”

He paused.

“That baby… is mine and Vivienne’s.”

Audrey froze in shock.

Julian had already walked away.

He knew that confession would completely enrage the Vance family.

He also knew he might lose the entire project because of it.

But none of that terrified him as much as the thought of Vivienne believing she had only ever

been a surrogate carrying a child for someone else.

The medical records had been forged by him.

The doctor had been bribed by him.

Even the version Audrey knew was carefully manipulated by him.

No one knew the full truth except him.

Minute by minute, time dragged on.

When the plane finally landed in the Republic of Kairos, Julian immediately hailed a cab and

rushed toward Vivienne’s location.
