The Baby Couldn’t Tie Him, The Lie Did Chapter 01

The Baby Couldn’t Tie Him, The Lie Did Chapter 01

At six months pregnant, I got a call from the police station telling me my mother had assaulted someone.

By the time I arrived, my mom was already trying to lunge at a young woman across the room.

“You seduced another woman’s husband,” she shouted. “I should’ve beaten the hell out of you!”

My mother had always been the type who couldn’t stand homewreckers. If she saw a man cheating or a family being destroyed, she’d throw herself into the middle of it without hesitation.

Mortified, I hurried over and tried to calm her down.

But the woman across from us only glanced our way with cold disdain.

“My husband isn’t going to let this go,” she said.

Thirty minutes later, the doors to the station swung open.

The second she saw the man walking in, the woman burst into tears and threw herself into his arms.

“We are not settling this,” the man told the officer flatly. “I want her charged.”

The moment I heard his voice, my entire body locked up.

The married man my mother had supposedly “mistaken” for someone else…

Was my husband.

Julian Everett.

After saying that, Julian lowered his head and kissed the woman gently in her hair.

“Don’t cry, sweetheart. I’ll make sure she pays for this.”

He never looked at me.

Or maybe he did and simply didn’t care.

Nothing in that room mattered more than the woman in his arms.

A sharp cramp twisted through my stomach, and I stumbled backward.

The woman immediately pointed at my mother behind me.

“She hit me,” she sobbed. “And she kept accusing me of stealing her daughter’s husband.”

Her voice cracked dramatically as tears streamed down her face.

“She even smashed our wedding photos…”

Behind me, my mother completely lost control.

She shot to her feet and pointed at Julian.

“You shameless bastard!” she screamed. “Julian, how could you do this to her?!”

Only then did Julian finally notice us.

Shock flashed through his eyes.

I had barely taken a step forward before the female officer beside the desk interrupted.

“Sir, what is your relationship to this woman?”

Julian glanced at me.

For one terrible second, our eyes met.

Then he reached into his wallet, pulled out an ID, and handed it over.

“We’re married.”

The entire world went silent.

Six years.

From our days at Saint Jude’s University to the life we’d built together in Silverport.

Back then, he had fought against his own family just to stay with me. He’d walked away from the Everett family fortune and started his own business from scratch.

He told me we couldn’t legally register our marriage yet because the Everetts would never accept it.

“In families like mine, marriages without family approval never last,” he used to say.

He promised me that once he established himself, he would bring me back to the Everett estate openly and proudly.

“Vivienne,” he had whispered back then, holding my face in his hands, “one day, you’ll be my rightful wife.”

The Julian from six years ago slowly overlapped with the man standing in front of me now.

My vision blurred with tears.

Then the officer’s voice cut through the silence.

“Ma’am, please explain why you assaulted the victim.”

My mother looked ready to explode again, but I grabbed her arm tightly.

She must’ve felt my hand shaking because she squeezed it back with heartbreaking tenderness.

I took a slow breath and lifted my head toward Julian.

The second our eyes met, he looked away first.

So did I.

I lowered my gaze to my rounded stomach before forcing out the most humiliating lie of my life.

“I’m sorry, Officer. My mother… mistook her for someone else.”

By the time everything was settled, another hour had passed.

I bowed politely to the woman.

“I apologize, Ms. Vance.”

She ignored me completely.

Instead, she clung affectionately to Julian’s arm before looking me and my mother over with obvious contempt.

“I guess I can let it go,” she said smugly. “Your mother’s already old and still cleaning houses for a living. Life clearly hasn’t been easy for her.”

Then her eyes drifted deliberately to my stomach.

“But honestly? If a baby still can’t keep a man loyal, maybe it’s time to let him go.”

She smiled sweetly.

“Otherwise next time, you might not run into people as forgiving as me and my husband.”

My chest felt hollow, but I still managed a composed smile.

“Thank you for not pressing charges, Ms. Vance. I’ll think carefully about what you said.”

After that, I thanked the officers quietly and walked out of the station with my mother without sparing Julian another glance.

We made it past several storefronts before my legs finally gave out.

I crouched on the sidewalk and broke down sobbing.

My mother gently rubbed my back.

“Vivienne,” she whispered hoarsely, “Mom’s here. I’ve got you.”

Right then, my phone buzzed.

A text from Julian.

[Vivienne, let me explain when I get home.]
