Goodbye, My Beloved Alpha Chapter 02

Goodbye, My Beloved Alpha Chapter 02

Silas left with the fox shifter.

The sound of his car faded into the night.

Owen sighed. “Luna… Why provoke him like that? You know how he feels about you.”

I picked the ring out of the trash and threw it in the bin.

“Go do your job, Owen. Don’t mind me.”

He pressed his lips together and walked away.

I returned to the Luna suite, took off that ridiculous, beautiful gown, changed into a white tee, and pulled out my suitcase.

In the closet, our clothes were always kept separate, his on one side, mine on the other.

I took out everything that was mine.

Other Lunas, when they fought with their Alphas, had to consider survival if the bond broke.

Between Silas and me, there was nothing to sever but the rings.

No one would believe it now, but our wedding was a spectacle.

The whole wolf circle talked about it for months.

He never gave me a mating mark.

I still remember his words at the mating ceremony. I was standing at the altar in Howling Wind.

“I’ll only ever have one Luna. Her name is Olivia. Clara, I won’t mark you. You shouldn’t have agreed to this.”

I stared into his cold, gold eyes and gave him my only answer.

“I need this. Even if it’s just the title.”

His eyes turned colder. The corner of his mouth twisted.

He didn’t say anything more, he didn’t have to.

He thought I just wanted the title of Luna.

He never knew I’d been in love with him for seven years.

I know. It was stupid, thinking I could change his mind.

I dragged my suitcase out of the pack house. The whole place was utterly silent.

It felt like the night Grandmother first brought me here.

Thirteen-year-old Silas had stood at the top of the stairs, looking down at me with those cold eyes.

Then he had gone to the kitchen and returned with a glass of warm milk.

I took a flight, then a ferry, back to the small town where I’d grown up.

I rented a small house.

The local wolves didn’t like outsiders.

They wouldn’t let me shop in their stores or eat at their dinners.

But my neighbor, somehow, got them to accept me.

To thank him, I invited him over for dinner the next day.

He said he was a painter, just passing through for inspiration.

He looked young. Those green eyes stayed with me.

My wolf liked him instantly. It was strange. She mostly didn’t like me.

I bought flowers. Planted lilacs in the yard. Put a small rocking chair by the flower bed.

It was simple. But it was mine.

Back at the Howling Wind pack house, yellow roses for Olivia were everywhere.

The glass greenhouse held the expensive piano Silas had built just for her.

No one else was allowed to touch it.

Grandmother once tried to have the roses removed.

Silas went berserk.

“Remove the roses, and I will not set foot in this house again.”

After that, no one mentioned it. Olivia and her roses became taboo in Howling Wind.

Lucas invited me camping.

I hesitated. But his smile was bright. Effortless. Before I knew it, I had said yes.

I’d left Howling Wind. No more social obligations. No more pack business.

I realized that I was twenty-five.

I should be living.

On the hike, we talked. About the past. The future.

My past offered nothing useful. Just Silas.

But Lucas had stories. Dreams.

“Life’s an experiment, right? I want to be a real artist. So I have to try.”

“Truth is, I ran away. If the yard’s empty one day, it means my family caught me.”

I laughed.

I thought, we’re both runaways. Only someone would come looking for him.

As for me? Silas would probably throw a party.

We reached the summit just as the sun was setting.

That warm gold light,it felt unreal. Beautiful.

I looked down at the town below. Everything was bathed in gold. Peaceful. Quiet.

Lucas was already setting up the tent.

“Aren’t you going to paint this?” I asked.

I preferred sunrises. Each day a new start. New possibilities. New energy.

I sat on the chair he’d brought, watching him work.

But his words kept echoing in my head.

A new start.

Leaving Howling Wind was the bravest thing I’d ever done.

But was it brave? I’d just run to some town and hidden in a cottage.

I hadn’t thought about the future. Was I really going to waste my life in that yard?

I was twenty-five.

I had other options.

I needed to move on. Make friends. See the world. Get to a place where seeing him across a room meant nothing.

I slept deeply that night.

In a tent. On the ground. But I slept better than I had in years.

In the early morning, I crawled out of the tent, groggy. Lucas already had his easel up. His expression was different, focused, serious.

The sun was rising. That warm light hit everything. Hit me.

I looked out. My new beginning.

“Clara! Don’t move!”

Lucas’s voice was sharp with excitement. I froze, only able to glance at him from the corner of my eye.

When he was finally done, I rubbed my stiff neck.

“Here. Payment for being my model.”

His hands were strong. It felt good.

On the way down, Lucas chattered about his inspiration. I saw the painting. I thought it was fine. I’m no art critic.

By the time we got back, he’d vanished into his yard.

I turned on the TV.

Silas’s face filled the screen. I flinched back.

My hand hovered over the remote. Then stopped.

I’d decided last night. I couldn’t hide from him. He was everywhere,TV, social media, the news.

In the interview, he looked the same as always.

When asked about the rumored separation, his voice was calm.

“My Luna is in a mood. She’ll be back when she’s done playing.”

Everyone said I was the world’s luckiest orphan.

Adopted by the elders of Howling Wind. Married to Silas. Born under a lucky star.

They had no idea what it was like. Being ignored. Having the Luna title but never truly belonging.

Every year when the yellow roses bloomed, Silas had the servants cut them and place them in every room.

The piano in the greenhouse was dusted daily.

Olivia was dead. But Silas made sure I never forgot her.
