The night before the wedding, I felt strangely anxious. 

A message popped up in our group chat. [Yo, Reed. You actually gonna go through with the wedding tomorrow? Spit it out.] 

[Yeah, we’re all coming to watch the show. Gonna film Chloe’s 

face. It’ll be epic.] 

I turned my phone on and off. Chloe hadn’t texted me once. 

I was irritable. 

I typed in the group. [Do brides not text their grooms the night before the wedding? 

[Dude, none of us are married. How would we know?] 

[Usually she’d be too excited to sleep, video–calling you and being all lovey–dovey.] 

[Not necessarily. Maybe she’s shy.] 

[You’re asking like you actually wanna marry her.) 

Did I? 

Memories of the past few weeks with Chloe flashed through my mind. 

My heart skipped violently. 

A clear voice told me. I want to marry her. 

I wasn’t playing around. 

I meant it. 

After all those years, my love was real. 

I wanted to see her in oversized pajamas, curled up on the rug watching movies. 

I wanted to hear her pout and say, “I can’t cook, Jaxon. Help me!” 

I wanted to hold her small frame in my arms, watch her blush and call me a pervert at a sweet compliment. 

Vivid, lovely, perfect Chloe. 

In our home. 

I wanted to spend forever with her. 

I called her. It went straight to voicemail. 

Something was wrong. 

I asked the group. They said she was probably just tired from wedding planning. 

Maybe. 

I typed. [I’m getting married tomorrow. All of you better be there.] 

[Not ditching her after all?] 

[C’mon, he was just joking. No way he’d actually ruin his own reputation.] 

I locked my phone, imagining Chloe in her wedding dress. She’d be stunning. 

Too bad the custom one was ruined. 

It didn’t matter. She’d be beautiful in anything.
