My Husband Turned My Madness Into a Live Show Chapter 08

‘Josie..”

The second Nolan saw me, his eyes turned red.

My son immediately let go of his hand and ran straight toward me.

“Mommy!”

He was just a kid after all. He wrapped his arms around my legs, yelling “Mommy” over and over with joy.

Nolan stood right across from me, crying tears of happiness.

But my cold voice cut through this reunion.

“What are you two doing here, looking for me?”

My son pulled away in shock, staring up at me with a completely confused look on his face.

The smile faded from Nolan’s face, but he quickly pulled himself together.

“Josie, we’ve been so worried about you this whole time. We’ve been looking for you nonstop every day.

“We came here to bring you home, of course.”

“That’s right, Mommy.” Andy lifted his chin. “Dad and I miss you so much. Just come home with us, okay?

“That bad woman got kicked out, she’ll never dare bully you again.”

Home?

During the five years I spent in the mental hospital, that was my biggest dream-to go home.

I missed my husband. I missed my son.

But what was waiting for me instead was a ridiculous, cruel lie.

Winona stole my identity and profited off my five years of hell.

And I. I was the one who ended up losing everything.

The person who caused all this wasn’t anyone else It was the husband I trusted more than anyone

Thinking about it all. I let out a bitter laugh

‘Save it. That place isn’t my home anymore

“Since you found me, let’s just get a divorce straight away.”

‘Divorce?

Nolan’s brow furrowed sharply.

‘Josie, how can you just say divorce like that? Even if you don’t care about what we had, you have to think about Andy-

he’s still so young.”

Andy looked up at me with a pitiful pout.

‘Mommy, I don’t want you two to get divorced. I want to be with you.

Staring at that innocent little face, all I could think about was what he’d said to me over the phone. He told me I should

just die.

I never wanted to feel that heart-shredding pain again.

‘Andy’s not that little anymore. He has his dad, that’s more than enough.

The Farley family is huge and wealthy. Can’t you afford to raise one kid?”

Nolan looked completely stunned.

“How did you get so cold?

“Stop this. Just come home with us. Do you really have to drag this out until everything’s broken beyond repair?”

Listening to him talk like he was completely in the right, I just laughed in disbelief.

“Who’s the cold one here, exactly?

“Five years of living hell, betrayal from my husband and my own son, and…”

I couldn’t get the rest out, just swiped at a tear.

“If you don’t want a divorce, I have plenty of ways to make it happen.

“From now on, we’re not family anymore.”

Right after I finished speaking. Eliot-who I’d arranged to pick me up-pulled up alongside us

I was reaching for the car door when Nolan grabbed my arm, unwilling to let me go.

“You and him..

Before he could finish. I wrenched my arm out of his grip, turned, and got in the car

Through the rearview mirror, I watched the two silhouettes-one tall, one small-stand alone, looking hollow against the

wind.

Even though I only saw Eliot as a friend, there was no point in explaining anything to Nolan now.

That same night, Winona’s death was announced on the big screen downtown.

She’d been knocked off a bridge by a semi-truck. It was a brutal death.

And the mastermind who ordered the truck driver to do it… there was no question it was Nolan.

I was sure he pinned every bit of the blame on Winona, wiped his own hands completely clean of everything.

He called me from a dozen different numbers, and I hung up on every single one.

It wasn’t until he was drunk that I accidentally picked up by mistake.

“Josie, listen to me.

“I’m such a fucking idiot. I wronged you, I wronged our boy.”

“But I really do love you. I think about you every single second of every day. I’m going crazy…”

The man who was always so cold and aloof was sobbing so hard he could barely speak into the phone.

I held the phone to my ear and said, calm as anything. ‘Don’t call me again.”

I hung up and looked out the window at the bright, full moon hanging in the sky.

Maybe some people were meant to stay stuck in the past. But I wouldn’t let myself drown in the grief of what happened.
