My Fiance Said Betrayal Was Mutual Revenge Chapter 09

But the further he went, the more my blood ran cold.

“And I took it, Elowen. All of it. I know you hate me for killing Mrs. Peterson. A month

ago, when you told me to drive a knife into my stomach, I was ready.”

“A week ago, you told me to jump off the roof. Somebody grabbed me before I could go over. Three days ago, you wanted me to walk into oncoming traffic. I messed that one up too.

Please don’t be mad. I’ll get it right next time. I promise.”

My scalp prickled. The words ripped out of me before I could stop them. “Kyler! Are

you insane?! That wasn’t me! I was in the States the whole time!”

He blinked. “Elowen? Am I hallucinating?” I forced myself to stay steady. “Kyler. You’re

sick. You need to see a doctor. Now.”

But instead of hearing me, he pulled me into his arms so tight I couldn’t move. His tears soaked through the fabric of my shoulder.

“Elowen. You finally talked to me. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Three years ago…” That’s when I understood. He’d been faking it. Revulsion flooded through me. I shoved him off. “Get away

from me. You and I are done.”

But he grabbed me again, burying me against his chest, his voice a flood of desperate apologies. I lost it. I pulled out the pepper spray I always carried and shot him straight in the

eyes.

-!”

He reeled back, howling in pain. “Elowen-don’t go-Please-I waited three years for you

I laughed. Cold. “Three years. What does that change? You’re still a murderer. What could you possibly have that I’d still want?”

“Kyler, I was stupid back then. Now I see you for exactly what you are.” I left. I didn’t look

back. He kept screaming that he had a heart.

The next few days, I buried myself in reclaiming my father’s legacy. Once the company

was mine again, I moved its headquarters to the next city over.

I left Kyler behind. Again. He spiraled into another desperate search, tearing the city apart trying to find me. It didn’t matter. He could search forever. I was never turning back.

As for Brynn, she married that rural bachelor. Three years. Six kids.

None of it had anything to do with me anymore. I didn’t care to know the details. That teenage love, that teenage friendship, I was ready to leave it all where it belonged. In the

past.
