I Work For My Roommate’s Love Pool Chapter 09

The color drained from Chloe’s face.

I stepped forward, whispering directly into her ear.

“They might have loved the mask. But under my mask, there is a person of substance. Under yours,

once the mask is ripped away, there is nothing but an empty, lazy, bitter shell.”

“We were never the same.”

I walked away, leaving her standing there like a statue.

[Holy… she actually convinced me…]

[Mic drop. You have to have the talent to pull off the ‘act’!]

[So the guys didn’t love a person, they loved a symbol of perfection. Whether it was Evelyn or Chloe

didn’t matter to them. That’s dark.]

[I’m awake now. Why should women play roles for men at all? Just be yourself.]

The tide of the thread had completely turned.

I went back to my dorm and opened my laptop. The screen was filled with rows of complex,

dizzying code.

Yes, I was a top student.

But my major wasn’t Liberal Arts. I was a dual major in Quantum Physics and Al.

I’d suspected the “System” the moment I saw those floating comments.

A program that transfers favorability and warps perception sounds like magic, but in the realm of

quantum mechanics, it’s just data.

I’d treated it as a parasitic program based on quantum entanglement.

It was encoding my personal “charm data” and tunneling it to Chloe through an unknown sub-frequency, forcing the observers-the four men to collapse their perception into one result: Chloe is perfect.

I was the source of the energy.

Once the source became unstable and stopped outputting “perfect” data, the entanglement broke.

That was the logic behind my “rotting” phase.

Now, it was time to cut the cord for good.

I ran a reverse-tracking program I’d written, following the weak energy fluctuations until I locked onto an anomalous sub-spatial frequency.

“Found you.”

The world went silent.

I knew then it was over.

The System was gone.

The next morning, the line of people outside my dorm door stretched down the hallway.
