I couldn’t help it–I laughed. 

“And if I ‘cleared my head‘ and came back? Then what?” 

“I’d still have to apologize to Lexi Watson for something I 

didn’t do. I’d go back to being your simp, letting you humiliate me whenever you felt like it.” 

Reid’s lips trembled. 

“I wasn’t taking Lexi’s side,” he stammered. “I just… I hated that you were ignoring me for that stupid tournament!” 

“I told you my money was yours to use! Why wouldn’t you listen? Why would you rather bust your ass for some measly prize money than just take what I was giving you for your tuition?” 

“I only stood up for Lexi to piss you off! Are you happy now?” 

I hadn’t expected that to be the reason behind his cruelty, but it didn’t matter. The past was dead weight. 

“Are you done?” I asked. “Because I have a class to get to.” 

A flicker of disbelief flashed through Reid’s eyes. 

“I just poured my heart out, and you have nothing to say?” 

I sighed. “Reid, isn’t this how it always was between us?” 

“I was always the one chasing you, and you never valued a single thing I felt. I spent three years performing a monologue while you…” 

I mimicked his trademark cold sneer. “While you couldn’t 

have cared less.” 

Watching Reid stand there, frozen, I had no desire to keep going back and forth with him. I turned and hurried off to 

class. 

Reid stayed in town for a few days, but every time he tried to talk to me, I treated him like he was invisible. 

Eventually, he flew back home. 

When he found out he couldn’t apply for a transfer to my school until next year, he reportedly fell into a deep depression. 

As for Lexi Watson, things took a turn. 

The members of the Forensics & Debate Team still loathed her. 

They spent weeks digging up dirt until they had a massive PDF documenting every single time she had played the damsel to wreck someone else’s relationship. 

The file started as a small campus rumor, but someone ended up posting it on social media. Lexi went viral for all the wrong 

reasons. 

She became so infamous that even over here, across the ocean, 

I heard the international students whispering about her. 

I didn’t waste a second thinking about her fate. My phone buzzed with a text from Reid: 

[I know I was selfish. I know I broke your heart. I’m working on my temper, I swear. Can we just start over? Please?] 

My eyelids gave a slight tremor, Then, I deleted the message‘ and blocked his number for good. 

Now that I had moved on, I wasn’t about to let the past trap 

me again. 

It just wasn’t worth it.
