After I Laid Five Golden Dragon Eggs, the Dragon King Regretted Chapter 05

I was about to say they were his, but Seraphina beat me to it 

with a gasp. 

“Ember! No wonder you were so quick to leave Aethelgard- you had already conceived another’s children!” 

“Valerius, if these were yours, why would she have…?” 

Seraphina trailed off. 

But we all knew what she meant. 

Valerius’s expression was beyond grim. 

He glared at the five little drakelings on the bed, squeezing the words through his teeth: “Ember, is what she says true?” 

“Did you leave Aethelgard because of them? Why did you betray me?” 

I found it very strange. 

He was the one who gave me the divorce agreement. 

He was the one marrying Seraphina, with invitations sent 

across the seas. 

How was it that I was the one who betrayed him? 

Even the Ungifted have their pride. 

I steeled my resolve and said, “It has nothing to do with you.” 

Valerius swayed violently. 

“Move.” I reached out to push him aside, wanting to hold my 

babies. 

But the moment my palm touched his chest, he let out a 

muffled groan and staggered back, coughing up a mouthful of blood onto the ground. 

I was horrified. 

The script went into a frenzy: 

[What is she doing? The lead is severely injured! He never had time to heal from the Heavenly Trial!] 

[He kept calling her name while he was unconscious; that’s 

why the heroine brought him here.] 

[Exactly. The first thing he said when he woke up was ‘Where is Ember?‘ The heroine’s face went green.] 

[She brought him here to show him that the side character didn’t care about him, hoping he’d finally give up. She didn’t expect this.] 

Reading those words, my head began to spin. 

Why was Valerius calling my name while unconscious? 

Panic seized me. I crouched down to help him, but my hand 

stopped halfway. 

I didn’t know if I still had the right to touch him. 

Just then, five small figures scurried out from behind me. 

They were fresh out of their shells, wobbling and pale. Each had tiny horns and a tail as they stumbled toward Valerius. 

The cubbiest one bumped into Valerius’s knee, looked up with wide golden eyes, and chirped in a tiny voice, “Daddy!” 

The other four followed suit, grabbing his legs or tugging at his clothes, chirping in a chaotic chorus: “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” 

Seraphina’s face went bone–white. 

Valerius was equally stunned. He touched the nearest 

drakeling, then looked up at me with sudden hope. “Ember… are these our children?” 

I nodded. 

It was as if Valerius had been pulled back from an abyss. Overjoyed, he pulled me into an embrace. “They really are mine. Ember, we have children–five of them!” 

But then his tone turned reproachful: “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” 

Hearing his tone, all the grievances I’d been holding back surged up. 

“I was going to tell you, but you gave me that decree.” 

Valerius froze, looking like he’d been struck by lightning. 

He quickly started to explain: “Ember, the reason I said that 

was-” 

“Valerius,” Seraphina coughed, interrupting him. “We should return to Aethelgard.” 

It was like a bucket of ice water over Valerius’s head. 

His excitement and joy vanished instantly, replaced by the cold, distant facade of the Dragon King. 

He was silent for a moment, then knelt down to pick up each 

of the five wobbling drakelings. He gave each a heavy kiss on 

the forehead before setting them down. 

“I must go.” He looked at me, his eyes full of a longing he 

couldn’t hide, but his words were cold. “I will come to see you 

when I can. We will discuss the children’s future then.” 

He turned and walked out. 

The five babies stumbled after him, tugging at his clothes and crying: 

“Daddy, where are you going!” 

“Daddy, don’t go!” 

“Daddy, hold me!” 

Valerius paused, five round little drakelings clinging to his legs. He looked down at them, and his eyes suddenly turned 

red. 

He looked back at me. 

That look made my heart ache sharply. 

I gathered my courage and chased after him, finally asking the question I’d been holding all day: “Can’t you take us back to Aethelgard? They just hatched, and I can’t raise them alone.” 

Valerius reflexively nodded, but then stopped himself and 

shook his head. 

“I can’t.” His voice was pained. “You cannot return. I will send someone to help care for them. There are… matters in Aethelgard right now.” 

“If you cannot manage, I will come for them once everything 

is settled.” 

With that, he strode away as if he were fleeing. 

Seraphina followed, glancing back at me with a smirk. 

“Ember, I’ll leave you to look after our children for now.” 

The script drifted by: 

[What ‘matters‘ in the stronghold? It’s the wedding between the lead and heroine!] 

[The lead must have fallen for her. He doesn’t even want these cute babies.] 

I stood there, stunned. 

The five babies huddles by my feet, looking up at me, not understanding why their mother was crying. 

I had always thought Valerius was different. 

I was wrong. 

My mother didn’t want me, and now Valerius didn’t want me 

either.
