He Told Me He Slept With Her, on Our Wedding Bed, in My Dress Chapter 05

Callum was still too late.

By the time he shoved the window open, I was already falling. When he made it to the backyard, I was unconscious on

the ground.

The sight of me snapped something in him.

He turned on Blaire, who had run downstairs behind him, and roared, “Call 911. Now.

If something happens to Sienna, you won’t be walking away from this either.”

Blaire fumbled with her phone, her terror eclipsed only by a surging, toxic resentment.

She had always believed I stole the luck that should have been hers.

I was born first, prettier, smarter, better at everything that seemed to matter, and from the moment she was old enough to compare us, she made it her mission to take everything she thought I had stolen from her.

First it was our parents’ love.

Then our friends.

Then, when all of that still wasn’t enough, she went after my husband.

She had thought that would finally put her above me, but I had climbed out of the wreckage.

I had Callum, a man who once looked like he would give me everything, and that was why Blaire wanted him too.

She used our parents’ favoritism as a shield while she systematically dismantled my second chance at a life.

She thought this time she had finally won.

But watching Callum panic over me now, watching him clutch me like his whole world was bleeding out in his arms, she

had to face the truth. She had lost again.

Callum knew nothing about the thoughts running through Blaire’s head.

He only held me tighter, speaking in a frantic, broken rush, his words falling over each other.

“Sienna, I’m sorry. I’m sorry. None of that was true. I only said it because I couldn’t stand that someone else got your love

before I did.

As he spoke, memories crashed through him.

He remembered falling for me at first sight, and the way he had stalked the perimeter of my life while I was with Gavin

He remembered the day I married Gavin, how he had wanted to drag me away and couldn’t, how he could only tollow

behind the car we drove off in on our wedding day, tears running down his face as he watched me become someone

else’s bride.

That day had hurt like a blade twisting in his chest.

He wanted me happy, but he had never been able to stand the thought of that happiness coming from another man

So he stayed in the distance and watched my life from the shadows, waiting, until eventually he got his chance.

My husband cheated.

I spiraled into depression.

I was isolated, broken, nearly abandoned by everyone who should have loved me, and he had rebuilt me into a shape

that suited him.

And then he destroyed it.

The thought that I might actually die left him completely unhinged.

By the time the ambulance arrived, his face was a mask of chalky terror, but he still refused to let go of me, clinging so

tightly that the paramedics had no choice but to haul him into the ambulance with me.

He could force his way into the ride..

He stopped at the red line of the surgical wing.

As the doors slowly closed in front of him, sealing me away. Callum dropped to his knees and prayed I would survive.

Just then, my former therapist happened to pass by and stopped short when she saw him.

“Mr. Mercer,” she said, startled, “what happened?”

His eyes were bloodshot when he looked up at her. He shook his head once and said hoarsely. “Sienna tried to kill herself

The therapist froze for a beat, then shoved past him and rushed into the operating room. “How is she?” she asked.

The lead surgeon gave a small shake of his head.

The physical injuries aren’t the worst part. But her will to live is very weak. If that doesn’t change. I can’t promise

anything.”

Dr. Aris stepped up to the head of the table, her voice a sharp, commanding whisper in my ear.

“Sienna Hale, you once asked me what it would take to truly get better,” she said softly

“You didn’t want to become a burden to Callum, and I didn’t answer you then I’m answering you now

Her voice stayed low and steady, cutting through the darkness inside me.

“It starts when you stop making another person your emotional lifeline. You are your own savior

“I don’t know what happened to you, but dying isn’t redemption. It’s just another form of escape

“Stay alive. And if someone hurts you, hit back. If you lose the first time, get up and do it again. As long as you’re alive

there’s still hope.”

The world doesn’t end because they failed to love you. Their failure isn’t your reflection. Wake up. Sienna. Fight

The heart monitor suddenly jumped.

It was as if the woman who had given up on herself had, in that instant, reached back for life.

On the operating table, my lashes trembled once, like the smallest answer.
