I Ran Away Carrying the Mafia King’s Child Chapter 03

I Ran Away Carrying the Mafia King’s Child Chapter 03

From that day on, I started half-assing Massimo’s treatments on purpose.

“Don Romano, to match your status, you really ought to replace this wisdom tooth with solid gold.”

Massimo’s face turned black instantly. “…”

After the appointment, he cornered me in my office.

“Dr. Ferraro, have I been far too lenient with you lately?”

I leaned back in my swivel chair, raising an eyebrow. “If Don Romano isn’t satisfied with my treatment, you’re more than welcome to find another dentist.”

Silence hung thick in the air.

Massimo stared daggers at me, rage simmering in his eyes like it would burn me alive.

I prayed he’d fire me on the spot.

But he took a sharp breath and ground out three words through clenched teeth.

“I’m not switching.”

With that, he spun on his heel and stormed out.

Perfect. Another day successfully getting under Massimo’s skin.

My plan was simple: act unprofessional and unethical until he grew completely fed up.

Make him fire me himself.

If he let me go first, I could collect severance and vanish.

Foolproof plan.

I doubled down in the days after.

I messed around with ridiculous treatment plans and gave him nothing but half-hearted service.

One day I claimed my tools were broken and couldn’t perform procedures.

The next I said I was in a bad mood and wouldn’t see patients.

I turned the whole clinic upside down.

The director lectured me nonstop, begging me to “get my act together.”

As if I’d listen.

Massimo’s scowl grew darker by the day.

I waited eagerly for the moment he’d finally snap and kick me out.

One day he marched over, furious that I’d suggested he pull out all his teeth and replace them with dentures.

I was hunched over the sink, mid-violent bout of morning sickness, deathly pale.

He burst in just as I finished retching, leaning weakly against the basin.

He stormed straight to me and grabbed my wrist.

“What the hell are you playing at?!”

His rough shake made my head spin, and I couldn’t hold it back—I threw up all over his six-figure custom suit.

Ugh—

The moment turned painfully awkward.

Massimo’s face was blacker than cast iron.

I held up a hand weakly. “I swear, it’s not because I find you repulsive…”

He stared at the mess on his chest, then at my ashen face. The anger in his eyes faded, replaced by something complicated and unreadable.

“Go to the hospital,” he said in a low, firm voice.

My heart dropped.

“No need!” I rushed to refuse. “I just ate something bad. Rest and I’ll be fine.”

There was no way I was going to a hospital. One checkup, and my pregnancy secret would be exposed.

But Massimo wouldn’t take no for an answer.

“You’ve looked terrible for weeks. A checkup will put my mind at ease.”

His tone left no room for argument.

Cold sweat broke out all over me.

Just then, a voice note popped up from the schoolmate who’d sent me the pregnancy test.

My phone was connected to the Bluetooth speaker, and her voice blared out loud in the silent exam room.

“Riley, did you get the pregnancy test I sent? Those things take a toll on your body—you need to think this through!”

Dead silence.

I could hear my own heart hammering in my chest, loud enough to echo.

This was it. I was done for.

I slowly lifted my head to meet Massimo’s gaze.

The faint trace of concern vanished entirely, replaced by icy, scrutinizing coldness.

“Pregnancy test?”

He rolled the words around on his tongue, every syllable dripping with frost.

“Dr. Ferraro, just how many surprises are you hiding from me?”

My mind raced desperately, scrambling for any excuse I could grasp.

“It’s for a friend!”

I nearly shouted the lie.

“She… she got tangled up with a terrible man and had nowhere else to turn, so she asked me for help!”

I even forced a few fake tears, putting on the tragic act of a wronged woman just like in the dramas.

Massimo narrowed his eyes, his deep gaze pinning me down as he searched for any hint of deceit in my words.

After a long moment, he laughed.

The smile never reached his eyes—it only made the air feel colder and more menacing.

“Is that so? Always so eager to help others?”

He pulled out his phone and dialed his assistant right in front of me.

“Look into every social connection Dr. Ferraro has. Focus on female friends. Find out who’s been having ‘trouble’ lately.”

He hung up and slipped his phone back into his pocket, his movements slow and deliberate, heavy with oppressive authority.

“Dr. Ferraro, you’d better hope I don’t find anything.”

“Otherwise, I won’t mind making your so-called ‘friend’ suffer right alongside you.”

With that, he left. He stripped off the expensive suit stained with my vomit and tossed it into the trash like it was worthless.

The second the door clicked shut, my legs gave way and I collapsed to the floor.

Run.

I had to run now, tonight.

That same night, I packed my things in a panic and hailed a taxi straight to the train station.

I bought the next available ticket south, no set destination—anywhere as far away from Massimo as possible.

As the train pulled away, watching the city lights blur and fade behind me, I let out a long, shaky breath.

Goodbye, Massimo.

No—never see you again.
