She Called It A Joke I Called It Revenge And Let Them Both Burn Chapter 05

Even with one hand cuffed, Lexi held her phone up to continue 

the stream, zooming in on the powder on the ground. 

She rattled her handcuffs at the officer and said with a giggle: 

“It’s just a bag of white pepper. Why the big deal?” 

“Officer, you’re so serious. I told you, I’m just hyping the atmosphere. How am I supposed to stream if I’m cuffed?” 

In Lexi’s chat, the screen was filled with “WTF.” 

After several “jokes,” the viewers were starting to sense something was wrong and began calling her out for clout–chasing. 

But now that the three of us were cuffed and an unknown 

powder was actually on screen, the chat went wild again: 

[Holy crap! They actually found something?] 

[My family is in the spice business; I guarantee that is NOT pepper!] 

[The streamer might have actually played herself this time.] 

[The cops look dead serious. If that’s real, that’s a lot of jail time…] 

The lead officer’s face darkened, and he barked: 

“Crime scene! Shut down that livestream immediately!” 

When Lexi tried to resist, the police forcibly ended the stream and confiscated all three of our phones. 

“Call the narcotics unit for a field test. Seal the perimeter! No one goes in or out!” 

Police tape was stretched across the entrance, blocking the crowd outside The Gilded Sage. 

Realizing the severity of the situation, Lexi’s nonchalant mask 

finally cracked. 

She frantically grabbed at Julian’s sleeve, her voice trembling: 

“Julian, why aren’t you saying anything? I’m scared. We were just joking for the views, right? It’s not real…” 

Normally, Julian would have rushed to comfort her, but now 

he remained silent. His knuckles were white, and his face was grim and brooding. 

Seeing his uncharacteristic silence, my heart sank. 

The last time he acted like this was when he realized that the 

cheap oil he bought was industrial waste. 

He had refused to admit Lexi was the one who introduced the 

supplier until I promised not to sue. 

That bag of powder was almost certainly the real thing. 

Soon, the forensics team arrived. When they saw the two kilograms of brown powder, even they took a sharp breath. 

If this was what they thought it was, it was a massive bust. 

A technician in gloves carefully took a sample and placed it in a test kit. A few minutes later, the red line on the strip appeared rapidly. 

He looked up, his voice grave: 

“Sir, it tested positive for illegal synthetic additives.” 

The lead officer’s gaze turned cold as ice, scanning the three of 

us: 

“Leniency for those who confess, severity for those who 

resist. Now, who bought this?” 

Lexi’s face turned ghostly white as she shrieked: 

“Impossible! I was just making a joke! How could it be real?!” 

She suddenly whipped around and pointed a finger at me, her voice reaching a piercing pitch: 

“It was Seraphina! It has to be! She’s the head chef. Ever since she started helping at the bistro this weekend, business has been insane! Her Consommé is too good–she must have bought this to spike the food!” 

“I’m just an influencer; I have nothing to do with this 

restaurant!” 

The officer didn’t buy it. He stared at her sharply: 

“If you’re just an outsider, how did you know exactly where it was hidden in the pantry?”
