She Called It A Joke I Called It Revenge And Let Them Both Burn Chapter 03

Even though she didn’t finish the word, everyone knew exactly what she was implying.

The entire room fell into a deathly silence.

Everyone knew that The Gilded Sage owed its fame to my signature dish, the Grand Truffle Consommé.

It was rich, savory, and incredibly flavorful.

We only sold thirty servings a day, and people would line up before dawn just for a taste.

But now, Lexi was claiming that I added an addictive, illegal substance to the recipe.

The lead officer’s expression changed instantly. His relaxed demeanor vanished, replaced by a cold intensity as he barked:

“This is no longer just a food safety issue. Adding controlled substances is a serious felony! Are you absolutely sure you aren’t ‘joking’ now?!”

Lexi stood tall with an air of self-righteousness, lifting her chin:

“I’m a law-abiding citizen. The owner here might be my best friend, but I couldn’t stand by and watch his girlfriend do something so evil just for money!”

Julian immediately stepped forward and naturally put his arm around her shoulders, his tone indulgent:

“Yes, yes, you’ve always been too kind. You’re the only one brave enough to speak the truth.”

The livestream chat was in a frenzy, the screen covered in insults directed at me:

[The owner basically admitted it. This woman is definitely spiking the food!]

[Her heart is filthier than the grease she uses. She’s a monster!]

[Master chef? More like Master Poisoner!]

[Lock her up and throw away the key!]

Big spenders were spamming Super Chats, their golden comments flashing aggressively:

[Sending $500! Lexi, put this psycho in a jumpsuit!]

Lexi beamed as she watched the donation alerts pop up.

She blew a kiss to the camera and smiled brightly:

“Thank you to my top donor! Don’t worry, I’ll see this through to the end and get justice for all the customers!”

The officer frowned, casting a cold look at her before turning to stare intensely into my eyes:

“There has been an allegation of using industrial grease and addictive synthetic additives. This is a severe matter. You need to tell us everything right now. Where did this come from?”

Several officers stepped forward, ready to detain me.

My face went white, but I forced myself to stay calm:

“Officer, she’s just making things up. You can have professional lab technicians sample the food. There is no recycled grease, and certainly no illegal additives.”

Lexi piped up shrilly from the side:

“Officer, I’m not joking this time. I have receipts!”

She slowly pulled a procurement slip from her bag and held it up high for the police and the camera to see:

“Seraphina, stop lying. This is the order you placed for the bio-grease. Caught red-handed!”

The blood in my veins nearly froze.

The slip was real.

When The Gilded Sage first opened, Julian had been scammed by a supplier Lexi introduced and had purchased a large batch of industrial-grade grease at a low price.

Once I discovered it, I made him destroy it all immediately.

How did Lexi end up with the original receipt?

Before I could explain, Lexi struck while the iron was hot, shouting:

“And that’s not all! She’s growing a whole patch of Opium Poppies in the backyard as raw material for her ‘secret spice’!”
