Rejected Eleven Times, I Chose a Second Mate Instead Chapter 02

Rejected Eleven Times, I Chose a Second Mate Instead Chapter 02

That night, the news exploded online: Victor and Yvette had “finally become a couple.”

[Tenth Blind Bride Selection Complete! Yvette once again becomes Thornveil Pack’s future Luna. It must be fate!]

Everyone expected me to sit alone in the dark until morning.

Instead, I opened my suitcase and quietly started packing my things.

I didn’t know when Victor would come back. But the moment he stormed in, without a word, he slapped me across the face.

“Vera, look what you’ve done!”

He shoved his phone screen in my face. The headline blared: Bastard Daughter Forgets Her Place—Shameless Homewrecker Exposed!

“Your father and I worked so hard to get rid of that ‘bastard’ label for her, and now you’ve dragged it back onto the trending list and called her a mistress on top of it!”

My voice stayed calm. “I didn’t write that comment.”

Victor gave a cold laugh. “If not you, then who?”

“I’ve already made it crystal clear. This is just a ritual. It doesn’t affect your position as future Luna at all.”

The slap had left my cheek throbbing, the red mark only making my red-rimmed eyes stand out even more.

Victor softened a little and wiped a tear from under my eye with his thumb.

“You’re destined to be my Luna. Why do you have to fight over every little thing and deliberately make trouble for Yvette?”

Back when my father first brought Yvette home and forced my mother to accept her as a daughter, my mother couldn’t handle it. She swallowed a bottle of pills in front of everyone.

While she was being resuscitated, Victor got down on one knee and proposed.

“I promise nothing like this will ever happen to you. You are my one and only mate.”

I thought he was my savior in that moment of utter despair.

Then Yvette’s mother passed away. Victor teamed up with my father to give her a funeral with full Luna honors, an insult my mother and I had to endure publicly.

Then he abandoned me in the middle of nowhere after a single phone call from Yvette. I wandered for three days and three nights, barely making it out alive.

Victor motioned to a servant, who then brought out an elegant evening gown.

“Tomorrow is Yvette’s birthday party. Put this on and show up in style. That will prove she’s not a mistress.”

I laughed bitterly. “Why prove anything? Isn’t she?”

Victor’s eyes flashed with anger. Instead of yelling, he calmly handed me a donation consent form.

“Your mother’s kidneys are failing from all those pills she took back then. Yesterday, I finally found a matching donor. Are you sure you want to give that up?”

I looked up in disbelief. But then I thought of my mother, coughing up blood day and night, spending half the year in the ICU.

I swallowed my refusal, my clenched fists slowly relaxing.

“Fine. I’ll go.”
