Bully Her? She’s the Mafia Princess Chapter 04

Bully Her? She’s the Mafia Princess Chapter 04

I looked at Vincent and Isabella’s evasive looks and let out a mocking laugh. “Oh? So the Costa family does know this is ridiculous?”

“I was starting to think you’d gotten so arrogant that the Thorne family was nothing but an easy target for you.”

Vincent softened his tone, trying to backtrack. “Evie, you’ve misunderstood. I never said I wanted to be with Isabella.”

“What I meant was… after we get married, we might need to take care of her a little.”

“The Costa family would never insult you like that. I just chose my words poorly. Don’t take it to heart.”

“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow, my voice dripping with sarcasm. “So the whole thing about me being your mistress… that came out of nowhere? Did I just make it up?”

“It was a misunderstanding, all just a misunderstanding…” Mrs. Costa rushed to reassure me, her smile frozen on her face.

“I was joking with Vincent, and I can’t believe he actually repeated it to you.”

I pressed harder, not giving them a moment to breathe. “And Miss Isabella greeting guests at the door as if she were the matriarch of the Costa family? Was that a misunderstanding too?”

The three of them fell silent at that.

Vincent grabbed my wrist again, squeezing so hard I thought my bones might break.

His voice was laced with threat and impatience. “Evelyn, enough is enough. You’re going to be the matriarch of the Costa family soon. If we look bad, so do the Thornes.”

Isabella looked at me with tearful eyes, pitiful and heart-wrenching.

But I felt no sympathy, only cold disgust.

When we first got engaged, I knew Vincent had a distant relative in need whom he cared about.

Back then, I felt sorry for her because her parents had died young and left her with nothing. Every holiday, I sent her designer bags, expensive jewelry, limited edition perfumes.

Even though Vincent always paid her extra attention and was more considerate to her than to me, I never made a fuss about it.

I even told her to let me know if she ever needed anything. The Thorne family would protect her too, because I wanted to protect whoever Vincent wanted to protect.

I thought Vincent was just being sympathetic toward Isabella. I never imagined they’d been carrying on behind my back, treating my kindness as weakness.

Just then, Mrs. Costa suddenly started wiping away tears. “This is all my fault. If you want to blame anyone, blame me.”

I turned to look at her. Very well, let’s see just how far she could take this performance.

Her voice choked up. “Isabella lost her parents as a child and had no one. She’s been in love with Vincent all these years and refused to marry anyone else.”

“It broke my heart, so I asked Vincent to talk to you about giving Isabella a place to stay after the wedding, somewhere she could belong.”

She shot Vincent a feigned glare. “I don’t know how this boy explained it to you to make you think we wanted you to be his mistress. What a terrible misunderstanding.”

“I thought you were kind-hearted, Evelyn, and wouldn’t refuse. That’s why I had Isabella shadow me, learning how to manage the estate. It was all so she could help you in the future.”

“Evelyn, if you’re not comfortable with it, forget it ever came up. It’s just… poor Isabella will probably end up alone for the rest of her life.”

When she finished, quite a few guests looked sympathetic.

“They’re just taking in a poor relative. I don’t know why Miss Thorne is so against it.”

“Miss Thorne has always been spoiled and difficult. Maybe she twisted the Costa family’s meaning herself.”

“After all, they couldn’t be stupid enough to actually ask the Thorne family Principessa to be a mistress, right?”
