He Could See My Comments, I Used Them To Tease Him Chapter 05

I stared at him, stunned.

Silas’s ears were burning red, and his voice came

out a little stammered.

“Sorry, but I’m not… ready for this yet.”

I knew I shouldn’t have confessed first.

I cared way too much about my pride. This hurt

worse than dying.

My nose stung, my head spinning, and I was scrambling for an excuse to leave when someone

knocked on the classroom door.

I turned around and wanted to cry even more.

Cathie, my cousin, stood leaning against the

doorframe, her sharp mullet cut perfectly styled.

“Let’s go, kiddo. Why are you out so late today?”

The quiet classroom suddenly felt colder behind

me, a chill creeping up my neck.

Grateful for the excuse, I bolted toward her in

several steps.

“Why are you here so early? Here, have this

pudding.”

Her school was next door. She sometimes came

by on Fridays to mooch dinner at my place. I had

no idea how much she’d just witnessed.

“Thanks, Yvette.”

The second the pudding landed in her hand, a

shadow fell over us.

I looked up, startled. Silas’s eyes were dark, the

rims faintly red, the air around him gone cold.

“Excuse me.”

As he squeezed past between us, the pudding.

slipped and hit the floor.

I stared at his retreating back, something heavy

settling in my chest.

The moment I got home, I opened the comment

panel.

But after typing and deleting over and over, I

couldn’t send a single word.

A man’s heart was truly impossible to read.

Monday morning, I walked into class and saw the

familiar breakfast waiting on my desk.

My eyes drifted to the back row. Silas sat there

quietly, spinning a pen between his fingers.

He didn’t look up. I couldn’t read his expression

from this angle–just the cold, sharp line of his

jaw.

“You’re not eating?”

Zora stared at me for a few seconds, then glanced

at the breakfast I’d shoved into my drawer, clearly

surprised.

The pen–spinning in the back row paused. I

pretended not to notice.

“Nah, I already ate at home. I’ll just eat at home

from now on.”

Clatter.

The pen hitting the desk wasn’t loud, but Zora still

turned to look.

I didn’t turn around.

After a while, she leaned in and whispered, “Silas is staring right at us. His face is dark–kinda

scary…”

I’d already felt that burning gaze on me. But I kept

quiet.

I’d talked to ChatGPT the night before, and she’d been righteously furious on my behalf.

“I’m going to say this as plainly and directly as I possibly can: he’s stringing you along.”

“The hotter the guy, the better he lies. Getting all flirty, bringing you breakfast, but never actually asking you out or confessing his feelings–that’s a

textbook player.”

All day, I felt that deadly stare boring into my back.

By the end of the day, I couldn’t take it anymore. I

turned around and glared at him.

“Hey. What are you staring at me for?”

Silas pressed his lips together, looking a little off.

“You didn’t talk to me today.”

Huh?
