He Called Me His Mother’s Killer And Tried To Transfer Me To His Friend Chapter 08

Deke panicked and grabbed Grant by the arm.

“Grant, that money you gave Tessa was all borrowed! It was my money!”

“I don’t have that kind of money, either. I scraped it together through payday loans. You have to pay me

back, or I’m stuck with loans I can’t afford!”

Grant frowned and hissed at him.

“Buddy, you’re really gonna kick me while I’m down?”

Deke didn’t mince words.

“You could end up behind bars! Who knows how long you’ll be in for?”

“But my payday loans come due every month. The bills don’t stop just because you’re in trouble!”

“You gotta think about me!”

“You’re getting married again, and you’ve got two sons. I’ve got nobody!”

“If my credit gets wrecked and I can’t even get a loan, what woman would ever want to marry me?”

Tessa looked as if she’d just been slapped. She stood there in stunned disbelief, only now realizing that every dollar of the cash gift Grant had promised her was borrowed.

Her shock quickly turned to fury. She slapped Grant hard across the face.

“No money, and you’re getting married?”

“The money was borrowed, the jewelry went on a credit card, and the house went to your sons!”

“You figured you’d marry me and stick me with your debts! Grant, you’re disgusting–a lying, underhanded

bastard!”

The onlookers didn’t hold back.

“Who else is there to blame? You chose to be the other woman and wreck someone’s marriage!”

“That guy got what he deserved. He had such a good wife and threw her away. He’s going to regret it for

the rest of his life.”

“What a joke! His wife asked for $80,000, and she’s a heartless bitch.”

“His mistress demanded $300,000, and suddenly it’s perfectly reasonable!”

Their words came down like a blow, leaving both Grant and Tessa humiliated.

Tessa couldn’t take it anymore. She spun around and stormed off.

Grant hurried after her, calling out.

“Tessa! Tessa, please! Get me a lawyer!”

She only walked faster, not even looking back…

“Go to hell!”

Grant stood there, stunned.

Tessa was his first love, the one he’d never gotten over. He’d been willing to lose his wife and tear his family apart just to have her back.

But the moment she learned he had no money, she walked away without a second glance–just like fifteen

years ago.

Only now did Grant realize what a complete fool he’d been.

He watched her walk away and laughed bitterly at himself.

The crowd’s jeers rang out.

“Serves him right! See? The other woman doesn’t give a damn about him!”

“Only a cheating bastard would mistake an affair for true love!”

“That cheater’s karma came fast!”

Caleb laced his fingers through mine, and we walked past Grant.

Grant watched me go, his face unreadable.

It had all happened so fast that he just stood there, dazed, like he’d woken from a nightmare.

The next day, Walter learned that Grant had been arrested. He brought my two sons to my office to find

me.
I came out to meet them during my lunch break.

Walter was already in tears. He pleaded with me desperately.

“Mara, I know Grant’s done something unforgivable, and I know I have no right to ask.“”

“But please, for the boys‘ sake, give him another chance. You can’t really let him go to prison!”

As he spoke, he nudged Ethan and Noah toward me.
